Yesterday we shared the findings on racial disproportionality in youth justice diversion @nuffieldfoundation.org in London. Lots of discussion about how to ensure the report stays ‘off the shelf’ and the recommendations are tangible and specific to effect meaningful change…. @manmetuni.bsky.social

Thanks @russellwebster.com for featuring the findings in this paper journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Take a look below! Will be of interest to anyone with an interest in prison culture, children in custody, resettlement…..please share widely @manmetuni.bsky.social

New paper alert! Published in the Youth Justice Journal, I explore the views of Resettlement Officers in YOIs and the range of barriers they face when implementing Constructive Resettlement approaches. ROs described feeling isolated and invisible 👇 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

It’s a huge honour to be invited as a keynote to share the findings from a previous @nuffieldfoundation.org research study on the pathways into, through and out of custody for care-experienced children. See childrenincareconf.co.uk @manmetuni.bsky.social

"Many of the children trapped in this failing system should not be in custody at all, and certainly not in prisons like Feltham" - Andrew Neilson, Director of Campaigns at Howard League. Teenagers in Feltham are spending 22 hours a day in their cells: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Today’s the day! Really looking forward to sharing some powerful and impactful findings with fellow researchers, practitioners and policy makers later! Just a handful of tickets left if you want to sign up and pop along to the greatest city in the UK 😉

A new paper in the BJC proposes the abolition of all short-term custodial sentences for children. @drkathyhampson.bsky.social and @anne-marieday.bsky.social argue that the harm detention causes children cannot be justified and outline a route to decarceration:
