@ruthbenghiat.bsky.social discusses “authoritarians and plunder, and the arrogant power fantasies of M*sk and Tr*mp”

FWIW, if Bezos were to take this seriously it would require strong opposition to Trump, who respects neither.

NEW: DOGE operatives at HUD come from an AI proptech firm and a company that buys and runs mobile home parks, and have access to a startling array of data and systems—including one that controls who can access which HUD systems. This is by @telliotter.bsky.social and @davidgilbert.bsky.social

This morning, ASL Interpreters Union and @opeiu.bsky.social held a press conference outside of the FCC with Video Relay Service interpreters, who make sure people who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing can communicate through video with ASL. We stand in solidarity with them as they fight for their union.

Now they're just being mean to kids. I guess because they can. Who wouldn't take the opportunity to just make some kids cry?

CARTOON OF THE DAY

It was a huge mistake to rebrand "Loud dumb asshole who has no idea what he's doing" as "disrupter."

Brilliant LTE in this morning's Minnesota Star Tribune

Here we go. Certain generals must be removed before any martial law plan is put into action—as Trump and Hegseth are worried there may still be some generals out there who support the Constitution rather than his proposed dictatorship. This is a political purge intended as a precursor to far more.

One of the fired Inspectors General, Robert Storch, reveals that the head of counsels of Inspectors General reached out to DOGE and offered to help, but got no response. www.pbs.org/newshour/sho...

If you're thinking "the media" lacks compassion for the federal workers who have been laid off, it might be just that so many of us have been through essentially the same thing; for twenty years or more, news companies have been getting sucked up by vulture capitalists and decimated. Were exhausted.

NEW: At least 200 Afghan Americans in the U.S. military have relatives who applied for refugee status only to be blocked by Trump’s refugee ban. “We serve this country because it protected us, but now it is abandoning my sister,” said one soldier. By @lomikriel.bsky.social

One of our supporters shared this with us—people are getting creative tonight!

Elon Musk's destruction of our government is the opposite of chaos - it's strategy. Influential tech extremists have openly promoted this idea for years. Here's a 5-minute video explainer of Silicon Valley's Playbook to Destroy American Government: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC62....

New definition of corruption just dropped.

We will expose and shut down the Republican Bait and Switch.

Sen Andy Kim (D-NJ) to NBC about likelihood Republicans will need Democratic votes to avert a government shutdown: “This is on them. This is about whether or not they can get the votes. They are the majority, and if they cannot govern… then you know that's for the American people to see”

For proposals that would actually save rural community newspapers (as opposed to just trying harder), scroll to the end. But consider attending to the thoughtful discussion on the way down. #LocalJournalismMatters www.startribune.com/cruel-optimi...

The same people who said Hillary Clinton couldn’t be trusted with national security because she had a secure private server are totally fine with a teenager named Big Balls who was fired for leaking sensitive data having access to every plausible government database without a security clearance.

I've got several trips in mind, and for the first time in a long time, I'm finding myself worrying that aviation isn't safe due to the MuskRump meddling and obfuscation. This can't be good for the airlines.

Can we have our Democratic Farmer-Labor coalition back now? Please? www.startribune.com/usaid-shutte...

So a person claiming to represent "DOGE" can just walk into any federal building and demand unlimited access. Do I have that right? Seems too unspeakably stupid even for the current administration.

So close. "Trump moves to fire members of EEOC and NLRB, breaking the law" was right there.

I have never heard of a more DEI hire than a drunken, National Guard domestic abuser being elevated to run the entire military...

National Airport is National Airport, Denali is Denali, y el Golfo es de México. Also, Fort Snelling squats on the Bdote. Odd that any of this requires further discussion.

We need to rebuild public confidence in public health agencies. Halting external science communications to allow an RFK lackey to review them to ensure the info aligns with the administration’s political goals will only undermine trust. This a deeply disturbing move.

I was informed yesterday that my course on the far right at the University of Virginia was flagged by the Goldwater Institute for being "DEI/Anti-MAGA Instruction."

NEW: Firefighters from Mexico are en route to the #EatonFire — joining more than 10,000 personnel already on the ground. California is deeply grateful for President @claudiasheinbaum.bsky.social's support as we work to suppress the Los Angeles wildfires.

With #Greenland in the discourse, it’s as good a time as any to read @elizkolbert.bsky.social: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Our AG is taking the fight where it needs to go: The only way to get guns off our streets is to hold the manufacturers accountable for the damage done for profit. Glock, clean up your mess! #LocalJournalismMatters #GunSenseNow www.startribune.com/ag-ellison-s...

Nothing screams "government efficiency " like creating a new department run by two guys who have no experience in government.

My car insurance bills arrived yesterday, ticking ever upwards. I still get a paper bill and pay by check. I wonder if people who have such bills auto-withdrawn even notice the increases, and if they instead attribute their squeezed balance to the prices they can see (gas, groceries).

Another winning slice of life from @leilanavidi.bsky.social on the front page of this morning's @startribune.com . 😆 Photos and big page spreads are the main reasons I still pay for print. This just isn't the same on a phone. #LocalJournalismMatters

I don't think I want to fly without the FAA. I do, however, think that hurricanes will continue to roll without NOAA. #Project2025
