If Canada is tearing down interprovincial barriers, let’s start with health care. It's well past time we created a semblance of robust national medicare, by @picardonhealth.bsky.social www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti... via @theglobeandmail.com

🤦🏻‍♀️

"The National Tsunami Warning Center has verified there is no Tsunami threat to BC" I put together some earthquake info and resources which mostly point to PreparedBC, Emergency Info BC, Natural Resources Canada

A good resource: www.earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/info-gen/pre...

Now’s a good time to make sure our earthquake preparedness is up to date. 4.7 just off the lower mainland!

🇨🇦❤️

So we’re here now …. 🫤

Trans Rights are Human Rights. Period.

Yeah…. 😬

Agreed.

🤦🏻‍♀️ Sigh.

Me (trying to get nominated for the understatement of the century award): Ever get the feeling that things are getting a little bit out of control?

After a week of ‘too many headlines’, supporting a local restaurant and VSO performers seems a good way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. 😏

Do you ever get the feeling that whatsisname’s tariff threats-rescind-threat cycle is an insane way to short the market so that a handful of those in the know can benefit…?

Here's the speech if you haven't heard it. 13 minutes of your time. Share it with your American friends and neighbours, because they won't see it otherwise. Circulate it in Mexico and Denmark, France and the UK, Panama and Germany, Poland and Estonia, and especially -- especially -- Ukraine.

Have you ever watched the beginning of a dystopic movie where a normal family is doing normal family things, meanwhile the news scroll on the tv in the background is foretelling doom? Yeah. So we’re here. Time to focus local and support each other with kindness, patience, and generosity.

Most definitely!

Tickets are now available for the Canuck Place winter 50/50 raffle 🎟️ Your purchase will support complex care for children with life-threatening illnesses and families in BC and the Yukon. Miss604 is a sponsor of of this Canuck Place Children's Hospice campaign again this season. #nonprofit #bc

Well would you look at that. As science is being made to walk the plank south of the border, we have our own trumplicants running up the skull and crossbones and wanting to do the same. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Consider ourselves forewarned. No excuses.

Yep

What’s another word for being trapped doing unpaid labour with a devalued status in society…? Worse if you’re not wealthy enough to avoid the worst of what’s being insidiously put into place to keep uppity women in their place 😠

Good advice

Apropos of nothing, a little sign of hope seen on a frosty morning.

Why physicians struggle to care for patients with #disability. Disability issues are routinely omitted from medical education, by @timmybroderick.bsky.social www.statnews.com/2025/01/16/a... via @statnews.com #inclusion #MedEd

"Here’s the truth: These mega-disasters are caused by the climate emergency, which has been caused by fossil fuels. The fossil fuel industry has raked in obscene profits for decades, while knowingly bringing down apocalypse onto the rest of us." Great piece by Margaret Klein Salamon

I’m just going to put this out there again. Please share any posts that resonate with you. Thanks.

This!

The human race is actively speeding up it’s own destruction. 🤦🏻‍♀️😑 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Agree.

Consumerism and imaginary thinking driving rise of coal/oil use. We need to “talk about sufficiency and degrowth. I think part of the aim of the book is to show that these topics, which have been completely neglected by economists... should be taken more seriously.” Definitely. Before it’s too late.

#Canada, are we paying attention? We, too, are being firehosed daily with disinformation and outright falsehoods. We are not immune to corporate greed and autocratic agendas. And we, too, are losing credible news sources and journalists. Is this a road we want to travel in 2025 and beyond?

Jan 1, ‘25. A contemplative walk along the river.

I had the misfortune of being in a crowded emergency room not long ago. We masked as much as we could while hearing a child with whooping cough in a space not far away. Many were coughing ‘productively’. Few wore masks. About half the healthcare workers were masked. Sigh.

Banning plastic straws is not going to make much of an impact. We need to prioritize people over profit. Can that be our collective 2025 resolution? Https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/dec/27/climate-crisis-dangerous-heat-2024?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

In addition to generating energy, “They optimize space, provide shade, and reduce the heat-island effect in urban areas, which is when urban areas become significantly warmer than surrounding areas due to heat absorption by buildings and roads.” Now there’s a good idea!
