#Stikstof Deze cartoon stond 05 april 2005 in NRC Handelsblad.

Our special issue on (the #anthropology of) #Restoration in Environment and Society is out: a diverse collection of #review articles covering various regions, habitats and species. With Jessica Vandenberg.

He watches over me while I’m beating Covid out of my system .. again 🐈 🧡

Category: dystopian playgrounds. Found this beauty on a Brooklyn stroll. The wall is a highway.

I want to thank Elon Musk for attacking Wikipedia for being a part of the internet he can't currently control. It reminded me to donate to support Wikipedia, the best remaining thing about the internet. You can donate here: donate.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?...

Killing time @ prospect park NY.

If you've never donated to Wikipedia, now's the time. Elon Musk is attacking it because it's one of the only sources of honest, curated information that he can't control. www.newsweek.com/elon-musk-ta...

🐦 Love the giant hand-painted pigeon statue in Manhattan NYC, by Iván Argote, titled ‘Dinosaur’

I am sharing two PhD studentships in Naomi Millner's ERC funded project PEATSENSE (Diverse Knowledges and Sensing Practices in Peatlands for Inclusive Climate Futures). Great opportunity for students in #STS political ecology and critical geography. More info here: www.bristol.ac.uk/geography/co...

Please apply and share! Brown Anthro @brownanthro.bsky.social and Cogut Institute @cogutinstitute.bsky.social invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Anthropology of Environment and Health.

Happy Monday #TeamMarSocSci! It is a delight to be over here on #BlueSky - come and follow us and let's get some #MarSocSci chat going as we come to the end of 2024 💙

If you’re thinking that climate change is a future ‘threat’ - you haven’t been paying attention. (Photo not taken with a Time Machine).

#DoeHetNiet www.nu.nl/politiek/633...

"Under my leadership, we have instituted an assessment program where we assess how we assess what we already assessed, using learning outcomes that include all of the buzzwords someone in admin told us were important."

Okay folks, I also compiled a list of environmental / multispecies anthropologists. #EnviroAnthro #AnthroSky #Anthropology It's VERY incomplete, so please let me know who I missed, or if you'd like to be added. [Or, of course, if you'd like to be removed from this list.] go.bsky.app/Hax2cvh

In Oyster Bay NY with local hatchery folks who’re busy repopulating the Bay with unsellable (don’t call them ugly 🤨) #oysters they received from Long Island oyster farmers for #restoration through the TNC SOAR program.

📣Attn Marine Social Scientists! 📣 The Call for Papers for the MARE 2025 People and the Sea Conference is here! 🌊 Theme: Tensions, Trade-offs, and Transformations for the Ocean Decade and beyond Date: 24-27 June 2025 Deadline for submission: 31 January 2025 🔗https://marecentre.nl/call-for-papers/

NIMBY-ism is a thing all along the privileged coast of Long Island NY. Here in Montauk’s oyster hatchery: On the right a public oyster restoration initiative. Left the big mansion of a guy fighting this as it bothers the ocean view he enjoys after cutting trees in a protected forest.

Oyster Bay , Long Island. The town breaths oysters - you see them on every corner, though sadly almost all oysters in the bay have gone. I’m here to learn different perspectives on how this happened and what should be done about it.

Another day of participant observation with wild oyster monitoring by the Billion Oyster Project in New York. Getting the hang of it! This time we spot the creatures in the former landfill dumpsite of Randall’s Island. Amazing to see these wastelands come to life again. #oyster #anthropology
