I have been struggling mightily with motivation the past few weeks. What's the point writing the metadata if I'm gonna lose my job or someone orders it taken down? My therapist tried to remind me my work matters. It's important. And one day it won't be like this.

Well that's a new one. Article rejected for a journal; reviewer said the writing was so bad it was like it was written by someone who didn't speak English. Not only in English my first language, this was an approved chapter of my MA thesis.

Everyone, we need something lovely and pretty in our lives. So have a SnapCat #CatsofBlueSky #Cats

Just submitted another chapter of my thesis for publication in a journal. Hopefully one of them will get accepted! #skystorians

Hey fellow #skystorians - how long do you wait for an article to be reviewed before pulling it and trying at a different journal? I have an article I submitted almost a year ago that hasn't gone to reviewers yet and I'm wondering if I should pull and submit elsewhere.

@fobettarh.bsky.social Just wanted to thank you again for your Vocational Awe article. I was just at a conference of public historians and the concept was alive and well in several panels. You truly wrote an article that applies to many in the humanities.

Conference has been rough. I've been in pain with my right knee and then today did the same patella popping out of place to my left. I also don't have the mental stamina for 12 hours of conferencing in a day multiple days in a row. Things to definitely consider for future conferences #NCPH2025

Back from a very delicious Syrian meal at Le Petit Alep. English was my waiter's third language so he described something as being "eggbush" instead of "eggplant" but otherwise that's been the only language mixup. Still getting used to being greeted in French.

At some point I have to stop collecting PDFs and actually read them. Or, is this secretly what all PhD students do and that whole dissertation thing is a scam to help out ink sales? #thatPhDLife

Checking out Montreal bagels at St. Viateur. I know I'll get flak for it, but they are delicious and dare I say better than an NYC bagel?

The only reason I am up at 3:30 this morning is to head off to the airport for #NCPH2025! So excited to be in Montreal and be with some of the best. Of course my Florida-based bones are gonna freeze but at least I'll have a blast doing so!

I've got a day and a half to kill before NCPH in Montreal this week. Hit me up with recommendations for noms, haunts, and museums!

At a conference today that was interdisciplinary, which was both interesting and humbling. I have so many notes along the lines of "What the heck is critical fabulation?"

*Please repost* @sjgreenwood.bsky.social and I just launched a new personalized feed (*please pin*) that we hope will become a "must use" for #academicsky. The feed shows posts about papers filtered by *your* follower network. It's become my default Bluesky experience bsky.app/profile/pape...

Does the Pinterest app seriously not have an accessibility setting to make pins bigger? They're tiny tiny in my app!

In the next three weeks I have a work presentation, two conferences (one I'm presenting at), a family wedding out of town, PhD deadlines, end of teaching for me and grading, and several doctors appointments. Find me when it's April & make sure I'm still awake, not asleep in a ditch somewhere?

Medical complaints ahead: I recently dislocated my kneecap and need a brace. One at the ortho office didn't fit quite right so they sent me to Amazon. Except, I'm now on my 5th brace because either a) they kept sliding down or b) apparently they don't make braces for fat women. (1/2)

Reading books will go down drastically next month as I read for a paper, but happy with my progress so far!

Everyone else living with existential dread every day? It's been a month. I don't know how my psyche is gonna survive the next four plus years.

People who teach archives students, how are you doing it right now? I don't know how to teach archival fundamentals when the rug keeps getting pulled out from underneath us. I can't pretend nothing is wrong and many of them may not be able to find jobs in an already hard-to-get-jobs field.📜

I am dog sitting today for a friend, so everyone, say hi to Miss Tali and her very soft earses!

My brain is just so fried. Nothing particularly hard this semester. No theory, no papers (yet). Students are wonderful. Classmates too. But I think having low+ levels of dread each day has wiped my ability to have an extra full day. Gonna check in with my students & have short class tonight.

My minor freakout of the day (not politics related). My soc professor said "Oh, about 8000 words" for the final paper. That's 30 pages! Is that a normal grad-level sociology paper length for a lit review? #ThatPhDLife

Trying to eat more local veggies while they're in season. Tonight was some sauteed collard greens with pasta, chickpeas, some oil and vinegar, and a big ol scoop of ricotta. It was delicious! Thanks Julia Turshen for the recipe I riffed!
