Excited to share the work of Jonathan Perr where he uncovered a surprisingly common feature of cell surfaces - the presentation and clustering of RNA binding proteins with #glycoRNA. Critically support by #NIH @cp-cell.bsky.social www.cell.com/cell/abstrac...

Bill Nye at the Stand Up for Science rally in DC: "What are you afraid of? What is it about the process of science, modern medicine, caring for our neighbors, or Women's History Month, that you all find so scary?" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Just one single gut bacteria is astonishingly sufficient to repress the antibiotic-resistant C. difficile infection. A real game changer from colleagues at the Center. AI and synthetic communities boiled it all down. Big vision by the trainees and faculty www.psu.edu/news/researc...

Preliminary injunction in nationwide indirect cost rate case. This means that the judge found that the plaintiffs (AAMC, et al.) are likely to win on the merits when the ruling is finalized. www.statnews.com/2025/03/05/n...

The Florida-based Editor writes: “In my view…we can celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for the important contributions they make to our society while we're mostly oblivious. Or we can shut up, stay out of their way and let them work.“

Every scientist, long before they were a scientist, was a little kid who stood in front of a fish tank or stared up at the stars or turned over a rock to look at the bugs underneath and said “wow”. On the best days, working in science still feels like that.

Please don’t stop sharing and posting your science because of the current attack on it, it is still valuable and reminds us what the fight is for

Let's learn about Dr. Ruth Ella Moore, possibly the first Black woman to earn a PhD in the natural sciences, first Black person to earn a graduate degree in bacteriology. She grew up in Columbus, OH daughter to successful artist Margaret Moore.

Over 2.5 billion years ago, trillions of tiny Cyanobacteria spent hundreds of millions of years creating an oxygen-rich atmosphere on Earth. Take a deep breath. How are you using your oxygen today? Be present. Give freely. Care for others. Make your ancient microbial cousins proud. Exhale. Repeat.

Anyone have ideas on what this blue band could be on this Q sepharose column from C. difficile R20291? Soup was ran through thyroglobulin column to pull out TcdA and then through the Q sepharose with 20-80% NaCl gradient for 2hr 🦠 #microsky

This. Is. Amazing. Finally, an ebook alternative for Amazon, but for independent bookstores. This is amazing for readers who want to be more intentional about where you're spending your money. 📖 #BookSky

A special Bluetorial about one of my mentors Ruth Kirschstein Among Ruth Kirschstein’s many contributions to American science was the development and expansion of programs intended to increase participation of people from groups underrepresented in biomedical research.

Purifying 16 L of native C. diff toxin is by far the most brutal protein purification I have ever done. Never been more grateful for having a recombinant toxin system and for good cold beer. 😅

This account is for sharing info with US scientists, both extramural and intramural to NIH, about attacks on science in the US. Education is power, and we can help advocate for science and medicine together. 💪🧪 We are a team of NIH people. Please ask us questions you might have.

Being a scientist is more than a job, it’s a way of life. It’s a constant desire to understand the intricacies of how things in this world function. No matter how dark things get, just remember that no matter what happens, they can never take away our inherent, relentless quest for knowledge.

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Got some fantastic mass spec data back today from @msbioworks.bsky.social 🎉 if you are in the need of thorough and quick proteomics I can’t recommend them enough! 🙌

We identified protein domains in LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor). Their distinctive amino acid usage reveals the order amino acids were added to the genetic code, based mostly on size. Older proteins hint at earlier alternative codes. 1/15 @seekingluca.bsky.social www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Hey #microbiomesky #microsky #IDsky, check out @centermicrobialmed.bsky.social! We are focused on leveraging the microbiome to improve the lives of sick children. We’re also using genomics to track pathogens and reduce infections in kids. We’re building, growing, hiring, and looking for partners!

Metals increase binding of many metalloregulators to DNA, and the converse is also true. As a result, cells benefit from facilitating mehanisms to help proteins dissociate. Peng Chen et al. describe how collaborating regulators can facilitate repressor dissociation. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Congratulations to the legend himself, Dr. Rodney Tweten, on receiving the first Joseph J. Ferretti Endowed Chair! I am so grateful for your mentorship and friendship and can’t imagine a better person to receive this huge honor! 🎉
