Climate change is making plants less nutritious − that could already be hurting animals that are grazers

Tomorrow is voting day in Germany. I will also host a little Repair Cafė. I have no time for this, like you, but it is important what we do. It takes a little effort to stay a democrat, invest. It's much less effort than to fight it out of the ruins again.

A friend has just shared the latest report from @socialchangelab.bsky.social, which finds higher levels of illogic & disruption in protest action -> more media coverage -> more engagement & support. Counters usual narrative that disruptive protest -> loss of support www.socialchangelab.org/research

If you’re feeling stuck, worried, wondering if there’s anything you can do to support climate action, and you live in/near Oxford: join me at a new workshop, based on climate cafés. Countries that weaken or stop their #netzero and #climate actions may be consigning their populations to decades of preventable #airpollution illness. My latest for @theguardian.com on research led by Imperial College London. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Dear Keir Starmer. Just another consequence of blocking the Climate & Nature Bill. Businesses can see that the UK's emissions targets are incredibly weak👇👇 A clear signal that the UK Gov is not serious about net zero. www.edie.net/hsbc-weakens...

Scientists & experts: Add your name to this open letter calling on Congress and the Trump administration to ensure that NOAA and its sub-agencies remain fully funded and staffed, and that the independent, trusted science the agency produces is protected. act.ucsusa.org/4kajJuk

Yeah, they gave us some candid feedback on all the disappearing sea ice. Turns out, that's a real hot topic in Antarctica? The conversation got pretty heated.

This is a very bad idea. Cutting methane emissions is a key “emergency brake” to help stop climate change. Plus, it improves air quality and improves energy security and safety.

Climate activists who block roads for a short time, to convey this 👇and other key messages, get arrested and some sent to jail, whilst some farmers get a free pass for far more disruptive actions, not to mention environmental harm... www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Interviewed by @clairebyrne.bsky.social on RTE following a presentation I gave (& subsequent reporting) on the scale of emissions cuts needed to meet Ireland's 1.5°C commitment. Interview here: www.rte.ie/radio/radio1... Original 15 minute presentation here: climateuncensored.com/irelands-cli...

Tough decisions on adapting to climate change ahead for Scotland and the UK. Only a few weeks since this line was last shut by extreme weather. Unless you significantly upgrade infrastructure to be fit for a highly volatile climate, this will happen more and more often. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It’s amazing what can be done with straw 🌾🏡 #retrofit

Great to hear @paulpowlesland.bsky.social yesterday reflecting on different types of activism, and reminding us of David Graeber’s vision of activism = to behave as if we’re already free, already living in the world we wish to see flourish (sorry for paraphrasing Paul paraphrasing Graeber)

So a fossil fuel company that bought a CO₂ removal (CDR) startup for $1.1 billion plans to use the CO₂ captured from the atmosphere to get more oil out of the ground. It's…not great at all.

Paying farmers to rewild is by far THE most important thing society could do to reverse nature loss. But here in Ireland, it wouldn't involve 'doing nothing'. As someone practising rewilding for almost 16 years, I can tell you it requires very hard work: removing invasives, and much more.

And another triple #FoxOfTheDay upon a shed roof , this time shared by @biodiversityfan . What a sight !

Trump administration plans to stop depopulating chicken farms when they detect bird flu. They'll stress vaccines and biosecurity. Soon, it'll be easier for a chicken to get vaccinated than a child in the U.S. On a related note, this would be a good time to give up hot wings if you haven't.

Where will the annual minimum of Antarctic sea-ice extent end? At present, it is among the four lowest on record. But is still heading downwards 📉 ⚒️🧪🌊🥼❄️

The 'Slapp' against Greenpeace USA - "a form of civil litigation increasingly deployed by corps, politicians & wealthy individuals to deliberately wear down/silence critics, incl. journalists, activists & watchdog groups" (...) could have "a chilling effect on free speech & activism more broadly"

"Despite global efforts to combat the climate crisis and wildlife loss, light pollution remains socially accepted". Yet "it’s a disruptor of ecosystems, with profound consequences for wildlife, human health & energy consumption". Time to turn this around! (e.g. www.buglife.org.uk/campaigns/li...)

"... like a bunch of dominos falling over these icecliffs just topple. We've seen that in Jakobshavn glacier... these immense ice cliffs 30km long just BOOM - if that really plays out at large scale around Antarctica we're grossly underestimating the amount of sea level rise" @timnaish.bsky.social

Glaciers provide stable melting water to a very large % of all farms in the entire world. When (not if) we lose this stable, slow, dependable glacier melt water, our food system will collapse.

Stop burning food!

"High climate sensitivity implies a large contribution from amplifying feedbacks: water vapour, surface albedo (sea ice/snow) and clouds." "(...) our main concern is the danger of passing the point of no return, when the warming induces shutdown of the AMOC..."

Reading up on microplastic pollution in agriculture, and yeah. it is a huge issue. The evidence is not hard to find, in fact it is promoted by companies selling artificial fertilizer. Polymer = plastic It's "smart" nitrogen though... smartnitrogen.com/how-esn-works/

I get it, people fearing for their jobs, their colleagues, their families, their very lives... but this is just insane, right? #climatechange
