Accompanied by snipe-winnow and bat-wing, a post sunset walk into the west. View over the sea to the Outer Hebrides 😊 #naturewriting #landscapephotography #HighlandsandIslands #Scotland

Liathach in the morning mist of summer. I love this view, this, his iconic shape as seen from distance, from the road home. This awesome mountain says, "Here I am. Come to me." And all I want to say is yes! #WesterRoss #Torridon #mountainsofthemind #naturewriting

In the garden, our old 'Peace' rose. Such a beautiful embodiment of what peace is, should be - beautiful, colourful, serene, calm, enchanting, joyful, safe. Praying for peace everywhere.

As smooth as silk. The air, gentle as a baby's breath. Over the sea to Skye.

This is such a brilliant piece of writing about Teesside, deindustrialising landscapes and ecologies, birds, shorelines, oilrigs, that sort of thing

Please share this post and thread. @alexismarieadams.bsky.social & @julianhoffman.bsky.social have highlighted Kushner's plans in one of the most precious wildlife areas in Albania. What is it with the uber-rich that they care so little about nature?

And on the croft, the first flowering bog asphodel (Narthecium ossifragum) of the summer. A beautiful plant on bogs, hills and crofts, its bright yellow candles among the greenery will soon be seen everywhere πŸ’› #naturewriting #wildflowers #summerjoy

Friday morning. A short, escape-from-the-news blog post. #FridayFeeling #wildflowers #wildsummer#naturewriting

A new post on the blog. Wildflowers on the shore and a special gift from a crofting neighbour. notesfromasmallcroftbythesea.wordpress.com/2025/06/12/a...

What a gorgeous evening. Skylarks, stonechats, swallows and other songsters. Clouds of tiny moths, dancing flies and gentle waves. Sound up. Enjoy 😊

Together, we gathered some beautiful shells. My granddaughter said "There's a mother-of-pearl universe inside this mussel. With new planets!" #Feelthejoy #WondersofNature

The sea and sky have become the inside of a mussel shell today.

Drifts of flag iris, cotton grass and ragged robin, with a rabble of stonechats telling me how busy and important they were.

Red River Croft this morning. Golden ground under a silver sky. Although we've had a fair bit of rain, and although our flood meadows are wet, much of the croft is dry. But orchids and other wildflowers are popping up everywhere now!

Just received a lovely email from an American visitor to Scotland. She's reading Windswept as she tours the Highlands and this is how her e-letter began:

When a feast of colour comes on the wave-crests of a summer storm...

Happy Friday y'all. Here's a short post about orchids in the sun and rain, and June in the Scottish Highlands. An antidote to mega-egos squabbling perhaps 😊

A new post on the blog. It's June. According to Billy Connolly it's supposed to be summer! The rain has arrived but so have the orchids 😊 #naturewriting #writingcommunity notesfromasmallcroftbythesea.wordpress.com/2025/06/05/o...

Please spread the word it all really helps www.seaphotobook.co.uk Let’s help raise funds for @dementiauk.bsky.social

June is feeling very much like winter. Cold 50mph gusts, colder heavy rain and mere moments of brightness. But the birds are singing 😊

What did we do to deserve this government? It promised change, and many people voted on that basis, in good faith. But the change is from bad to worse. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Pseudorchis albida, the Small White Orchid, "vulnerable across GB", has popped up again on Red River Croft in Wester Ross. This year, it's leading all the other orchids in the race to greet the sun. Everything is topsy turvy after our exceptionally dry, warm spring, but here it is! What a beauty 😊

Mornings like these

Almost-sunset squally shower over the peats.

Colours of a peaceful evening. Wishing you all a joyful and restful weekend. Praying for peace, everywhere.

Transitions. (thinking of @janerushtonart.bsky.social's wonderful art work ☺️)

A calm afternoon of hunting for sea creatures with the little ones... we missed the best of the sun but had the beach all to ourselves. Opinan, Wester Ross, view over the sands and sea to Skye.

A single silver shower. Over the sea to Skye.

Thank you to @horatioclare.bsky.social, Kapka Kassabova & Monqiue Roffey who did a remarkable thing. A collective call to stop the #GazaGenocide. You can read about it in today's Guardian (link in Horatio's post below) along with the letter signed by hundreds of writers.

A storm blew in and all the fleeing light was caught by the sea.

Thundery squalls and sunshine. Brisk 40mph gusts to blow the cobwebs away. Shell collecting and castle building. Exactly what the grandchildren wanted and needed. Me too 🀣 Opinan, Wester Ross, Scottish Highlands.

What a difference a day makes. The fine weather has ended in a splurge of water colours. And a rumble of thunder. Vies across Red River Croft and the sea to Skye.

When the sun tossed fragments of golden light to earth... Ah! bog cottons at sunset. #FridayFeeling View to the Outer Hebrides from the headland at Opinan, Wester Ross. #naturewriting #landscapephotography #ScottishHighlands
