Women's representation has been stagnating around 30% for the past 30 years, after peaking at an all-time high of 36.4% in 2013—only to decline since. 32.4% after the 2025 Bundestag election. This is not progress. #GenderEquality #Politics #Bundestagswahl #Bundestagswahl2025

💥 New: Germany’s election – what happened and what might come next ✍️ @florianstoeckel.bsky.social blogs.lse.ac.uk/europpblog/2...

If you sum it up, 49% of young German men voted for a right-leaning party, but only 28% of young women. Conversely, 59% of young women voted for a left-leaning party, but only 38% of young men. (BSW left out.)

Some thoughts and pointers on the upcoming German elections on Sunday. Nearly all polling institutes have released final polls in the last days that show a very similar picture. It is nearly certain that the CDU/CSU will come out on top and Friedrich Merz is going to be the next Chancellor. 1/

Two great job opportunities in polisci/CPE at @ipz.bsky.social Less than 2 weeks left to apply!

You wonder how the CDU/CSU playing with the "Brandmauer" to AfD last week has influenced German voters? @mafaldapratas.bsky.social @jmfernandes86.bsky.social & I have you covered. We surveyed sample of 2,000 German voters. 🧵with first results 👇. Spoiler: It did not go down as well as CDU/CSU hoped.

@liesbethooghe.bsky.social & Gary Marks measure the extent to which political parties on the contemporary socio-cultural divide are cleavaged. doi.org/10.1080/0140... Part of the forthcoming Special Issue "Cleavage Politics in Western Democracies". #polisky #academicsky

EU needs to act to secure its future to deal with climate, social, competitiveness & security, AI challenges To this end, Commission launched its “Competitiveness Compass” Yet, politically, it will be a long & whining road Some of my thoughts for Social Europe www.socialeurope.eu/can-europe-o...

Friedrich Merz, the leader of the German CDU, just claimed in parliament that gang rapes are committed on a daily basis by asylum seekers in Germany. It is pure far right propaganda. The mainstreaming of the far right is happening on steroids in Germany right now.

ANYONE mentoring prospective academics must inform them about the contemporary academic climate and market, not the one that existed when they themselves entered academia!

Today, feeling close to cosmopolitans or feminists separates voters of the left from right voters who identify with people who are down to earth and hard working. Yet, these identities do have structural roots, just like class identities did. Our short CUP book on cleavage formation is out in OA.

In months ahead, 🇪🇺 leaders need to decide long term strategy to tackle 🇪🇺 economic, fiscal, industrial and security challenges Conventional view is that 🇪🇺 is forged in crisis as Monnet’s saying goes But radical right’s rise in last decade might seriously complicate 🇪🇺’s road to reform 🧵

Happy to share that our paper on why peripheral regions vote for the radical right is now out with the APSR: tinyurl.com/4zvv67d4 A quick thread on how this idea came along and developed within the last 5 years:
