Drove by the leftovers of car accident on northbound I-5 in Thurston County and holy smokes... It's being reported by WSP it was a wrong way driver who caused a head on collision with one car, the 3rd car couldn't avoid the crash, and that 3 people died in the initial impact.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

Spent time in the shop today with my boys teaching them how to work on their cars. Brakes all the way around on one car and the exhaust on another.

Made the jump to an EV recently (2025 Toyota BZX4). No regrets. NGL though... had some serious range anxiety that first week. The total range on this particular car (~210 miles) isn't as good as some others out there, but it's more than enough for what I need 99% of the time.

Starting to lose sleep related to the new job. Property values have skyrocketed the last few years in our county with taxes going up considerably because of that. Folks calling and stopping by all day long looking for relief. Sometimes we can help but not always. It weighs on me.

Had my first taste of tax season working with the assessor's office yesterday and 0/10 do not recommend. I had people (understandably) upset about their property tax bills that just came out, and came in and gave me an ear full. Not fun.

My almost 17 yo son (also my youngest) is moving back this weekend after living with his grandparents the last 18 months. Excited to have him back around.

When I was working from home I enjoyed watching birds and squirrels outside the window. Can’t do that anymore so my daughter bought me a bird feeder with a camera for Christmas so I can still watch them while at work. 😂
