The lastest issue of @McKellarJournal is out. In it I have a story on the rarely-written-about Links Golf Club, a C.B. Macdonald design that was on Long Island 1919-1984. I spoke with five former employees, including to get an in-depth and revealing look at the unique club.

#SethRaynor died on this day in 1926. He was in Palm Beach, Fla. most likely to give a last look at the Palm Beach Winter Club which opened a few weeks later, as well as the land for the proposed Craigin Park development that never materialized. Both were Paris Singer projects.

Quogue (N.Y.) Field Club, 8th hole. See the ball just to the left of the flag? That's not mine. Absolutely wonderful links course that went from 9 holes to 18 back to 9. Two original holes were lost when the owner broke the lease with the club because a group played on a Sunday #Finest9s

Golf course architect Devereux Emmet as painted by his sister, Rosa Emmet Sherwood, an accomplished artist. The picture appeared in the February 15, 1930 edition of Town and Country magazine.

For my latest Renovation Report podcast I have a good talk with Eric Morrison, the superintendent and Shennecosset Golf Course, about how a municipal golf course with a limited budget goes about renovating its bunkers. @turfnet.bsky.social www.turfnet.com/podcasts/ren...

Just found a lone newspaper article that has Charles Banks renovating Chattagoonga G&C in the spring of 1926. He was working at Lookout then. Would like to see another article or source to confirm it. Possibly only time Banks renovated a Donald Ross.

Stopped at a traffic light and noticed this on the side of the road. Could somebody be dumping a loan banana peel on a daily basis? Not sure what to make of the rogue orange.

Japanese hot sauce this carbonara-flavored??? Ummm... anyone tried this?

Me.

Made my first visit to Point Judith CC in R.I. to see the ongoing Ron Forse bunker work. Tour given by superintendent Brett Johnson and Darryl Bartlet from NMP Construction. Bunkers on #1, #6, and the long par-3 16th. Willie Davis, who laid out Shinnecock, Newport, designed first holes here.

@nytimes.com is on the @bsky.app story!

Fenwick Golf Course (1896), Old Saybrook, Conn. Par-3 3rd hole, 155 yards. I've made a combined 14 (8,6) the last two times I've played it. Long and left is extremely bad!

On November 18, 1883, America established 4 time zones so railroads could coordinate schedules. Until then, railroads operated under 53 different time schedules. People fought the change because telling time by a sundial was "God's Time." Via Heather Cox Richardson. @turkpipkin.bsky.social
