Though nowhere near as expansive as human conflicts, brubafa warfare is well documented, particularly in Salotum’s Aputsum people. Rarely equipped in more than light armor, those of high status adorned their garbs with jewel beetles to further augment their opulence.

A lovely seen in the canopy of a Breadnut 🏺 #sciart

A new art start featuring Yucatan Black Howlers (Alouatta pigra), a species that my friend studies! 🏺

Brubafa are born less altricial than humans and gain motor skills such as walking within a few days after birth. For this reason, they can be quite a handful for parents and caregivers!

Happy #WorldWhaleDay everyone! Here's a few Long-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis bairdii) I saw back in January! 🐬🏺

Absolutely horrible news this morning from a dear professor that has been working as everything I'm working to be. If you can, please help out. Sharing helps too. 🏺 gofund.me/ef8f62d3

"Interest in these species came as a result of both ethnographic data collection and due to how much I love weird little guys"🐬🏺

It’s very hard to dislike dogs! Although dogs are usually more responsive to human body language, they can form close relationships with brubafa nonetheless. Here, an older paim from Kerala proudly shows off her beloved “grand-dog”.

Welcome to the official Government of Salotum BlueSky account. In an era of misinformation and strife, we hope to use this platform to better educate the internet about our humble island nation. You can find our media brief below. #salotum #speculativeevolution #worldbuilding

I'm so happy that this is finished and in a state that I like! Time to sign it and get it a frame 😁

It's somehow crazy yet completely expected that I burned my fingers TWICE on separate times of trying to make garlic bread lmao

Yeah, this is really shaping up into something I like. 🏺🧪

Trying to balance my presence, though. Recently (as in YESTERDAY) the Pacific White-sided Dolphin and Dusky Dolphin were suggested to be in their own genus, Aethelodelphis! This means "dusky" or "sooty" Dolphin, here's the publication about it 🐬🏺🧪

Everything we think about nature is deeply cultural. And much of what we imagine is based on outdated, irrelevant, or out-of-place beliefs. A new book by Jane Rawson 🧪 📚💙

The patience that is required to watercolor is wonderful. Slow down, pay attention to details, and let the paint flow 🥰🧪🏺

Correct! They may not be *my* weird little guys, but they are dear to my department and to my friends + colleagues!

Doing my best to use art as an escape, and watercolor is particularly good for it. Now that the base green is down I can really start digging into the details 🏺🧪

I see people - Americans and non-Americans - grappling with what is happening in the US. An anthropologist (because we study people AND the bigger picture!) has explained it since 2015. Read @sarahkendzior.bsky.social in “Hiding in plain sight” & “They knew” (or her newsletter) and brace yourselves…

Dog food commercials: "Like their wolf ancestors, your dog craves the nutritional purity of real meat in their diet." Meanwhile, my dog's diet consists of 20% poly fill from stuffed animals WE DID NOT GIVE HIM, 10% bits of assorted squeaker & 5% whatever is underneath the sofa.

Oh my goodness. This was messy and difficult to re-learn, but here's them with masking fluid down! 🏺🧪

Working on a piece that I am actually going to watercolor! They're Colobus vellerosus, Trioceros cristatus, and Papilio antimachus 🏺🧪

Hahaha I dunno about the last two, but they're definitely unique (all species are), and wildlife charisma =/= personality charisma! It's more like a relationship people have with a species. It's easy to imagine with lions, they're religious and cultural symbols with connotations of pride, courage- 🏺

Charisma is a powerful beast, no pun intended.

Backyard cleanup crew, Aussie style🇦🇺 This Quenda (Isoodon fusciventer) was snacking on a Southern Moon #moth (Dasypodia selenophora) to help with our clean up on Christmas Eve #wildoz #auswildlife #mothsmatter

It's been a few days since I've finished Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs and I'm still processing it. Absolutely incredible book. Thank you again and again @blackmammalogists.bsky.social for the opportunity 🐬🏺

Proof I saw some bottlenose today (along with ~1300 Commons of both subspecies and a Humpback Whale) 🤣💕🐬🏺

Oh I got him good the other day - I was talking to him about a "light bulb moment" I had in my research and he quietly was like "yeah everything is data to you" and I responded with "well you're my favorite long-term experiment then" and watching a grown man melt was precious fjejwjsjek

Watching White Lotus with the boyfriend and the episode ended with the kid on the beach watching the whale and my bf turns to me and says "... and that's when he decided to become a whale anthropologist" 🤣🐬🏺
