Listen, I know every Black person's head turned when they heard that line

Trying to decide what would be a bigger scandal: -A reporter from Russian state TV being invited to an Oval Office meeting with Zelensky. or -A reporter from Russian state TV making it into an Oval Office meeting with Zelensky without being invited.

The Washington Post and LA Times editorial pages have gone full MAGA, MSNBC has purged all of its anti-Trump anchors, and Twitter is owned by a literal Nazi. Here's why liberal media bias is still a problem.

Musk's whole deal is to pretend that no one knew how government bureaucracy worked before, like it was this big mystery box, and it's exactly that combo of stupidity and arrogance that pervades silicon valley and leads to them reinventing a city bus and thinking they're Isaac Newton

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

The problem with people in the world who don’t care to learn from this country’s historical mistakes and atrocities is that they refuse to learn the past. They refuse to reflect on the past. They refuse to believe the past. And thats why we are repeating it.

@guildhome.net I am behind, but listened to the Patreon where a follower mentioned The Mechanisms. That was an inspired suggestion-Mechs were led by Jonny Sims (of Magnus Archives), and did smart stuff. Maybe the soundtrack to get us through the current period of burnout, uncertainty, and chaos.

This is just to say I have fired the bureaucrats throughout your government Even the ones that were probably keeping planes in the air Forgive me I am not very smart So efficiency Much savings

Stoke insurrection via social media and get away with it? Let's try goading the world into war next.

We have the technology to cut open the Mona Lisa’s mouth and give her animatronic lips that shout sassy quips at museum visitors. But the Nimbys at the Louvre stand in the way of progress

It's like watching in real time an invading army take territory.

PSA: Maryland has some great resources available for former federal employees/contractors. If you are one, or know of some (at this point, who doesn't?), please share this site. Hopefully they can get in on that workshop tomorrow morning. Of particular help: it promises emotional support:

As I read about these overblown accusations of SSI fraud, it occurs to me that Musk et al probably can't imagine living on $23,000 without committing illegal acts to supplement that income.

It's striking how similar the search for "fraud" in government spending is similar to the search for "voter fraud." They ignore actual experts and send in crackpots with an agenda to root around for anecdotes they can take out of context to spread misinformation. It's the new Big Lie.

Hey friends, just read this helpful article on Reddit. afsa.org/virtual-go-bag

Putin began the all-out war on Ukraine almost three years ago. I very much hope I'm wrong, but I'm very worried that Trump has begun the all-out betrayal of Ukraine today.

US aid freeze claims first victims as oxygen supplies cut off Seventy-one-year-old woman dies after being sent home from USAID funded hospital. Others die after hospitals close in refugee camps www.telegraph.co.uk/global-healt...

NEH has posted updates to the funding restrictions for some grant programs.

Here in the US, it is Superb Owl day. It is a myth that owls wear graduation mortarboards. In reality, they wear chef's hats because they are accomplished bakers.

Saying "don't worry, they'll stop it, our scientific research is valuable and profitable and important to tuition-paying students" suggests you've misunderstood that it has been an ideological project all along. The humanities were all those things too! It was never just about profit and loss.

Breaking: Democratic Senators agree to come together and perform a heartfelt rendition of Imagine.

If the FAA director got fired over a business beef AND there was an air traffic controller hiring freeze despite huge shortages AND a chaotic blitz to hollow out federal bureaucracy, and then within a week the first American airliner crashes in 16 years, you would be insane not to talk about it all.

I can confirm that this is true in my experience too. Please call your representatives. It makes a difference.

The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research! That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

"Hope is not blind optimism, but a grounded belief in our ability to persevere. By focusing on what we can control and reframing challenges as opportunities, we cultivate both resilience + clarity." Every Wed the mindfulness coach on our team sends us helpful quotes; this one, based on the Stoics.

I didn't realize how much I needed to read this today. Maybe some of you out there need to read this too.

"Did you consider the people who don't like chili? The people who are vegetarians? The people without tastebuds? The people who don't know how to turn on stoves? What about all those folks?"

In the BS cone of silence: My kid got a job! I am so damn proud of this quirky, autistic, passionate, and very cool human.

Every year on 1 January, Public Domain Day celebrates the artistic works that enter the public domain, becoming free for everyone to use, share, and adapt. Wikimedia volunteers are at the forefront of sharing these works while navigating copyright restrictions. ➡️ w.wiki/CbAe

Happy New Year. This Gabriel García Márquez quote comes to mind: “No matter what, no one can take away the dances you’ve already had.”

An anecdote: this year at UMass, the College of Humanities & Fine Arts slashed our funding to attend domestic conferences to $300, & if we apply to the union for funds first. But if we want to collaborate with the College of Computer and Information Science, then we are eligible for a $20k grant.

Sending strength to my academic colleagues and friends. There are so many things I miss about higher education, but this is not one of them. (Also, only 6 hours? You are a rock star.)

I watched Wayne's World with my 16 and 12 year old kids tonight, and it was everything I hoped. They got the jokes, laughed like they grew up in the 90s, and found new funny bits that never would have occurred to us Gen X'ers.

The National Archives christmas tree I love that the presents are archive boxes (IR 40 series, to be exact) That’s how I think about archive boxes

My dearest fellow humans: Have you never laid in the grass on a summer night and just stared at the sky in wonder?

I don’t understand why Google has been so intent on taking its search engine — one that was such a gold standard its brand name became a verb — and steadily turning it into useless garbage.

Every time I am *this close* to quitting social media, something like this shows up.

Youssef Kanjou, ex-Aleppo Museum: "The first & most crucial step...is enabling Syrians to return...Many skilled professionals & experts in cultural heritage are currently outside Syria, & their involvement will be essential for any successful restoration effort." www.turkiyetoday.com/region/assad...
