FYI, folks from Bluesky. Reporters at The NYT, among other news organizations, are now generating a giant wave of accountability stories about the new Trump era. Reading these stories, sharing them, is a form of accountability as well. It is a form of participatory democracy too. Substance matters.

Why is it that Brazil is one of the few countries around that remembers it is, in fact, a state with state capacity

Omg, the shade. Give her back the mic. I wanna hear.

The historic day when all the nation’s gay men and straight women cried out in unison: I can fix him

Thinking more and more that this may be the most important story of the year -- a denial of service attack on democracy funded by the wealthiest man alive.

Oh My God lmao

If they catch him, can they prioritise asking him what brow and lash serum he uses?

Susan Abulhawa’s recent amazing Oxford Union Debate speech (in defence of the motion "Israel is an apartheid state responsible for genocide") is really worth your time - although if you’re short on time, just watch the clip from 5:35 to 9:30. So powerful. 🍉🇵🇸 youtube.com/watch?v=nW5U...

All democracies should have regularly rehearsed contingency plans for successfully repelling domestic attempts to overthrow democracy. With aspirational autocrats increasing trying to seize power, we shouldn't discover how resilient our democracies are only at the point when they face overthrow.

190 MPs isn't just the opposition MPs but includes the president's own party MPs... They are planning to squat the parliament tonight.. The Army still not moving out of the parliament buildings... no arrests have been made though. Still everyone is asking whether we see the impeachment tonight

UPDATE: The opposition has now broken into the parliament - some of them by breaking windows/doors in. They apparently have 150 parliamentarians in place and are now drafting a bill to stop the martial law

Did anyone see the prog on renewal energy in Ireland recently? The Tallaght district heating scheme that uses the heat generated by data centres is amazing. They also talked about the future of Athlone as a ‘sponge city’. We need to fund research & link it to our unique context.

Our postman is incredible - at the busiest time of year, on top of his regular job, he is also going out of his way and taking extra time to ensure that little eyes don’t see too much and surprises aren’t spoiled. He has saved my bacon *twice* this week. An absolute gem. #BualadhBosAnPost

I do enjoy how the Irish defy stereotypes by producing the most insane election graphics known to man

Can #speirgorm use ‘schkeet’ instead of ‘Skeet’? My Mayo ancestors would approve, I feel… #GE24

And lo, a meme is born ✨ #GE24 #snideeye

Hutch had no policies and no solutions. None. “I’ll do what [the voters] want me to do” is not an actual strategy, especially for an independent with zero experience and few allies. The media should have focussed on that, instead of acting like a ludicrous shower of infatuated groupies. #GE24

It would be great if every constituency could have a large sign behind the returning officer indicating which constituency we’re looking at. The TV graphics are too slow to catch up, so a physical sign would make the whole thing easier to follow. #GE24

Marie Sherlock wins pretty comfortably in the end. For all the confusion about "how Dublin central could vote for a criminal", that constituency has elected a Cabinet Minister, the leader of the opposition, and centre left candidates in the SDs and LAB this weekend. Pretty reasonable voting. #ge24

Jaysus, I can’t be doing with the hoisting and the bouncing. #GE24

Stephen Donnelly to step down and leave FF having lost his seat and then join Aontu. Betcha #GE24

If it plays out as per the exit poll, with a FF/FG/SD/Lab government, we will - for a little while, at least - have our first woman Taoiseach. #brightside #GE24 #GwanDemocracy #GwanHolly
