When I worked in UK academia I recall hearing of a Japanese man who was baffled at how Britain had decided to run its universities like firms. “Why? Your universities are excellent and your firms are terrible.”

Tickets still available for the next @1972shp.bsky.social Yorkshire History Forum #SHPYHF at @sheffielduni.bsky.social on March 15th from store.leedstrinity.ac.uk/product-cata... Come and join us for a fantastic day of CPD for primary and secondary teachers of History! #historyeducation

So excited to see one of our wonderful history team presenting at this! Dan is FAB and has done some ace work in environmental history.

Looking forward to presenting at the SHP Conference in July - this is a cracking line up of presenters. Should, as always, be a fantastic event.

The aid cut is so depressing. I know it's politically popular but it's going to cause an enormous amount of harm. It's deeply frustrating that we've never found a way of explaining why it matters to UK voters even though it really does.

Don’t miss out on the joy that is #SHP25. @danlyndon.bsky.social has curated an amazing line up for some summer inspiration. Join us for brilliant sessions, inspiring keynotes, great conversations and even better company. It really is #historyteacher Glastonbury! #edusky

"Donald Trump has embarked upon a very different global mission. The US president is making the world safe for autocracy." - terrific column by @gideonrachman.bsky.social:

Breaking news: U.S. sides with Russia to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning Moscow for the Ukraine war. Washington’s dramatic shift on the conflict marks a major break with its European allies and coincides with the Trump administration’s bid to repair relations with the Kremlin.

I'm not keen on historical analogies about the Nazis, but it's been clear for a long time that the AfD is the most prominent successor party to pre-1945 German far right in general. This result should really worry anyone concerned with liberal, democratic, and diverse Europe

pt1. NOTHING beats meeting people in person to talk about teaching history. Why not consider attending one or both of these SHP events? 1. The Yorkshire History Forum, 15th of March in Sheffield. www.schoolshistoryproject.co.uk/yhf/ 2. The summer conference has just been announced! July 11th-13th

The Schools History Project @1972shp.bsky.social is delighted to announce the launch of our 2025 Summer Conference which will be taking place on the weekend of July 11-13 @leedstrinity.bsky.social. Full details on our website: www.schoolshistoryproject.co.uk/summerconf/

The news feels relentlessly difficult to read at the moment. But if you think you’ve seen the worst, you will not believe the tear jerker that is the middle classes scraping by on £100k.

Major announcement coming tomorrow, watch this space!!! #historyeducation #historyteacher #skystorians #history #primary #secondary

Better advertising to come, but I’m excited to announce that registration is now live for our very heavily subsidised Teaching Indigenous Histories & Perspectives Conference on 28 June! Bursaries for travel are available plus free follow-up support. Please do share with all your teacher networks!

'the company has set its sights on bringing its brand of immersive history to the UK via a £600m investment to build its mock medieval castles, hotels & restaurants on farmland...off the M40 in Oxfordshire. It has asked the upmarket property firm Savills to help with its planning applications'. 1/3

This thread from earlier today is literally just me offloading after 16 years of helping to run an actual early years setting. It's so frustrating that politicians don't listen so please excuse me the rant. 😉

The CPAC comments on Ukraine reveal far more about those now ruling in the USA than anything else. These are people who cannot understand why anyone would do anything except for personal gain and hang everything else: be it citizens, democracy, decency… www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

Free speech for those who agree with Musk… not a surprise but yet more reasons to get the hell off Twitter

The sooner we collectively realize that Elon Musk is a shitposting, conspiracy-addled fool, who needs to stay out of public policy not upend it, the safer we’ll all be.

It’s bad enough watching most of the fascists at CPAC but to also have to hear Liz Truss droning on about Musk Rats and a Trump Revolution in Britain…. It’s honestly too much now. Someone needs to stage an intervention www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

So many Republicans were willing to let children die so they could keep guns and stop some sort of royal tyrant returning to America… and in the end they voted him into office.

If you need another reason not to buy Brew Dog’s piss water

The most predictable news story ever. Self-styled brewdog "Punk" James Watt goes full on Musk bro fanboy. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2493228...

Quite a collection of questions on this 1972 sample American West paper!! “Explain the 19th century conflicts on the Plains in 5 lines” I dread to see the mark-scheme for “imagine you are Chivington”!!!” This is why it’s important to separate good intent from the reality of impact.

Actually surprised how critical the Telegraph is being of Trump’s handling of Ukraine. May be a fault line developing here in their love affair with the American hard right.

Ofsted need to get back in their lane here

Elon Musk is currently estimated to be worth $400billion. For context, and assuming that the whole salary could be saved, a teacher working in the UK would need to work for 10.8 million years (30x longer than Homo Sapiens have existed) to earn that…even Ofsted can’t demand that amount of labour.

Getting this propaganda all the time on Facebook now. Would report but guess what…
