Perfect day for sailing the Waal on a serenely peaceful river cruise, watching Dutch cyclists and trains whizzing by

Are you following Mountains Magazine on pixelfed? I'm adding only my very best mountain photos to this excellent alternative to Instagram > pixelfed.social/Mountains

NEW feature in Mountains Magazine: www.mountains-magazine.com/Swapping-sno... #Travel #Mountains #Ski #Holidays #Hiking

"You're going to Luton Airport" says the train confirmation page, as if that's something to be celebrated. Thankfully Luton Airport leads to far more interesting places.

Yesterday I went on the inaugural journey of new Thames Rockets boat Rebel Rocket, which is much larger than other Thames speedboats. Having never been on a Thames speedboat I loved the feeling of skimming across the water while all the sights flashed by. Opens to the public next weekend #PressTrip

Hi Bluesky pals who like Matt Berninger (The National). Would you and a pal like to go and see his q&a at Union Chapel London tomorrow (Saturday at 4pm)? I have 2 tickets bought before my dad died so me and em can no longer go. Hit me up ASAP x

Considering it was organised fairly last minute it's a good turnout at the @societyofauthors.bsky.social protest against Meta, who won't even come out and accept a letter outlining concerns #DoTheWriteThing

The French/Italian rail connection is back! From today you can travel direct Milan > Paris, and from tomorrow Paris > Milan. Follow @ogilvie.org.uk to see today's Italy to France journey, and @seatsixtyone.bsky.social for tomorrow's France to Italy journey #Travel #Trains 🚄

When two of my (many) favourite train accounts coincide

Some sorta "men in funny hats" thing happening in St Paul's

"Flying to the USA? Why not just stop in Canada? After all, they, too, have McDonald's"

Heard an airline advert targeted at US listeners which basically suggested that, if they're flying to Europe, they may as well go that bit further to the UAE, with the notion that the UAE is much the same as Europe anyway.

This evening involved cooking a dish originating from some mountains, for a section of the magazine I'm hoping will be in print by the end of the year 👨🏻‍🍳

Tomorrow's email features two airlines launching new routes next week to a charismatic Caucasian country. Subscribe here > www.mountains-magazine.com/Mountains-Ma... #Travel #Mountains #avgeek #flights

Exciting times for railway in Mexico

New NCL ship in Southampton, I'll be passing through tomorrow...I wonder if they'll let me take a look around? (Probably not, I don't have my passport or press card)

The coast of the New Forest National Park has long been associated with war, from the 18th century warships built here from the surrounding forests, to the D-day staging points as seen here at Lepe Beach.

Saddened to see these healthy 80-year-old Douglas fir marked for destruction in the New Forest @newforestnpa.bsky.social @newforestcouncil.bsky.social

In case anyone's interested, I've uploaded three posts to the blog about the recent trip me and my friend made to #Maldives. One of them is "Travelling to Maldives on a Budget". Which ... isn't something often considered! barefoot-backpacker.com/maldives-on-...

You have until 5pm (GMT) to subscribe and receive today's email which focuses on Mountain Media, including @edentravels.bsky.social's new book, a free @rgsibg.bsky.social exhibition, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival and @iainmski.bsky.social's must-hear ski podcast

Passport biometrics can record iris scans, fingerprints, and other unique characteristics for definitive identification. But Trump’s administration is stuck on whether a passport is printed with M or F. Now transgender Americans are afraid to cross borders. www.frommers.com/trip-ideas/g...

I started listening to Mercury Rev in 1998 and so their music has accompanied me all over the world. Good to hear them live again.

Would be interested to know the insurance implications of this sort of situation, which appears to be increasingly common

In the latest issue of Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine is my feature on the sights that can be seen while sailing from Seattle. Extract here: porthole.com/sailaway-sig...

What a journey. Chris is proving that there are still a few very excellent cargo ship voyages available

Subscribers: don't forget to vote for the next live mountain webcam on the Mountains Magazine homepage - there's currently a two-way tie!

It's been interesting having the Mammoth Mountain web cam on the home page (looks as though they're currently experiencing a white out at that top station), but it's time see the view from a different mountain

Interesting and encouraging story, Olivia Travel and Avalon Women’s Travel Co. sound like particularly good companies to travel with

Very happy to see the piece I wrote about my inspirational Armenian guide published today (on page 82) in Wings, the Eurowings magazine: wings.ink-live.com/html5/reader.... Here's a direct link to the piece: misc.pagesuite.com/pdfdownload/...

Sadly there's been no change in the cargo ship travel situation since I wrote this a year ago (most larger cargo ship operators still aren't responding to my enquiries) > aplantogo.com/2024/03/08/i... Maybe if an editor commissioned a fuller story I could use that weight to get some answers? #BGTW
