maxread.substack.com/p/the-silico... I found this pod ep very good. "The collective perspectives that emerge from social media - our understanding of what the public is and wants - are similarly shaped by algorithms that select on some aspects of the public, while sidelining others."

As a guy with a Nespresso machine in my office at work watching John Lithgow smash that brew button on his coffee machine in Conclave felt very familiar.

While many horrors abound, having to explain to other parents who Curtis Yarvin is--and what he believes--because it is influencing the people currently in power at a kids' birthday party is among them.

It's really fun to be adulting so hard when the background conditions are so chill.

The OMB freeze feels like an uncut Ron Paul/Koch Brothers facebook post from 2009 come to life animated by some gruesome AI grotesquerie. God... I loathe all these fuckers.

The Big Lebowski is a great movie that's kinda been ruined by it's fan culture. The concept of making a classic Chandleresque noir with an aging hippie burnout set in early 90s LA is great. We just never needed a pastafarian type thing based around it. Really missing the point of the movie

The band that's playing on the punk's boombox in Star Trek IV

One of my favorite things about David Lynch's work is how if something was immediately coherent narratively it was clearly a character's fantasy. Lynchian "reality" was always shot through with incomprehensibility and terror.

Wow. r/malelivingspace is some bleak stuff... apparently I should strive to live in a condo above a Chipotle with minimalist aesthetic and like two books on a shelf with some tastefully arranged plants.

Now feeling very justified in ignoring everything Neil Gaiman. He wrote those Twilight books right?

When you go record shopping after returning your mom to the locked memory care unit and you see the Neu! box set, you buy the Neu! box set.

This rules! "Although New York City has a famously robust transit system, I didn't end up using it... Unfortunately, this limited the amount of exploring I could do, so I mainly spent my trip in and around Midtown."

My 8-year-old daughter sometimes has a hard time sleeping. This week I have been playing her the Adam Tooze podcast series about heterodox economists. Last night it was the Michal Kalecki ep. She was out in 5 mins and I learned about his relationship to the Marxian tradition and Keynesianism.

Realizing that I was probably the last generation able to experience this as my 20s...

I mean... I'll happily watch the Jerky Boys movie again, but there are just certain movies where the moment has passed.

Was talking to L and realized that there are certain movies I will just never watch. Like Mr. Holland's Opus... the time window has closed on that one. Like... I'd have gone with my parents on Thanksgiving or Christmas to that, but we went to Toy Story or Waterworld or whatever that day.

Reading the sentence "legacy indie label Saddle Creek" sure is something...
