I got to meet the one and only Nnedi Okorafor yesterday! So many great insights into her writing process, including the fact that she pantsed her way through a first draft of Death of the Author, which blows my mind! #Booksky

I love how so many people are discovering the prophetic Parable of the Sower books by Octavia Butler - an absolute must read for so many reasons. I'd also recommend Urusula K. Le Guin's iconic short story, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. Are you one of the ones who stays or walks away? #booksky

My husband knows me well, I don't need flowers for Valentine's Day, I need scifi Africanfuturist novels about superhumans. 🥰💕 #Booksky #valentinesday

DeepSeek sent investors in jitters in late January, raising questions about the shape of demand for data centers. I spoke to experts who said cheaper models could become an accelerant, adding fuel to the fire for a sector that investors were already betting would continue to boom. 👇🏾

When you start reading a new book and the writing is just so good it immediately humbles you and has you questioning everything you've ever written/read... #booksky

A nice reminder on why it's so special and magical to write for children:

“You can do it, anything is possible” #Grammys

Okorafor's Death of the Author was just as good as I'd hoped it be. I just wish I'd buddy read this one though because I need to discuss THAT ending with someone!! It left my mind reeling... #Booksky #metafiction

Some great coverage on DeepSeek from CNBC's @ryanbrownecnbc.bsky.social looking at how the tech behind the Chinese startup and advances toward commoditization is paving the way for a shift to the era of next-generation AI agents. 👇🏾👇🏾

"Billionaire wealth surged in 2024, as the world’s richest people increasingly benefited from inheritance and powerful connections." Great piece on our new report 'Takers, Not Makers,' from @aprilroach.bsky.social @cnbc.com. www.cnbc.com/2025/01/20/o...

Finally got my hands on Nnedi Okorafor's new novel Death of the Author. This book has been on a little journey from the US to the Netherlands and finally to London. Definitely my most anticipated read for 2025, can't wait to start it! #Booksky #amreading

The wealth of the world’s richest people is accelerating at a faster pace than previously predicted. @oxfamamerica.bsky.social expects to see five trillionaires within a decade. The richest 1% of people own nearly 45% of all wealth, while 44% of humanity are living below the poverty line.

One of the perks of having a super star book influencer as your sister is the free books! Thanks @oliviascatastrophe.bsky.social 😍 #Booksky

Finally watched The Substance and it really is SO good. Demi Moore is equally hilarious and unnerving, I knew exactly what would happen with that date prep scene, as women we all know that feeling of comparing ourselves to others, not feeling good enough.

Keir Starmer will today announce the UK’s AI Opportunities Action Plan, a 50-point plan aimed at making the UK a world leader in AI. There’s a big focus on expanding national compute capacity - a key requirement for training and running the most advanced models. www.cnbc.com/2025/01/12/b...

Black founders received just 0.23% of venture funds in 2018. That share of the market for the minority group has increased little since then. Sawdah Bhaimiya and I spoke to several founders and VCs who are looking to buck the trends of declines in funding. 👇🏾 www.cnbc.com/2025/01/09/b...

Finished my first book of 2025 and it was a good one! Started the new year strong with James by Perceival Everett. Favourite line: "I wrote to extend my thought, I wrote to catch up with my own story, wondering all the while if that was even possible." #Booksky #amreading

While we’re banning books… Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar. Be. Like. Finland.

I've wanted to be a writer since I was 7, and at the age of 10 I became obsessed with writing to famous authors to get advice on how to fulfil my dream. Incredibly, some actually wrote back. Some of the best advice I received was in an email from Lois Lowry. 1/

Thinking about this passage from Jing-Jing Lee's How We Disappeared this morning as we're in that weird in between Christmas and New Years period where it definitely feels like "time wobbles." #Booksky #amreading

I read so many good books this year. These are the ones that I struggled to put down, that really stuck with me long after reading and that I know I'll probably return to at some point. Have you read any of these books? #Booksky #amreading

As a big fan of 1984, I was immediately intrigued by Sandra Newman's retelling of the novel from the perspective of Julia. I love how her novel expanded the world of Oceania and provided insight into the experience of women in the world. A really thought-provoking read! #amreading #booksky

And for my journey back to London, another Singapore based read #amreading #travelsky

I didn't realise Singapore was such a skyscraper city and so many interestingly structured residential buildings too. #travelsky

I can suspend my disbelief throughout most of The Holiday, but watching Cameron Diaz' character book and miss all those transatlantic flights gives me anxiety 😬😬💰💰

On my way to Singapore, reading a book about Singapore ☺️✈️✈️ #travelsky #jetsetting

Seeing authors get big deals in a genre publishing claims is dead always makes me wonder, does anyone really know what the market is doing?? #Author #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

Some great reporting from Karen Gilchrist on Greece's ghost towns. Years of decreasing births, economic hardship and mass emigration have left huge swathes of the country vacant. 👇 cnb.cx/3ZuidcP

It has been quite the year, so as a distraction from all that here are my WTF TV news moments from 2024 ✨

Wow that was some Tiny Desk concert from Doechii, if I wasn't already a fan I definitely am now. The aesthetics, the full band, the back up singers - everything was 🔥🔥 #blacksky

Prague at Christmas 😍🎄🎄
