Time to go home! Goodbye wonderful #Dhofar ! #fieldwork #ethnoarchaeology

Deadline fast approaching! Consider submitting your work to our session on #archaology and #sustainability at #EAA2025. You have until Feb 6th! @archaeorg.bsky.social, Filippo Brandolini and @camp-erc.bsky.social

Roughly 6,000 readers answered our poll, with many declaring that Bluesky was nicer, kinder and less antagonistic to science than X https://go.nature.com/42tH8Ai

And here they are! Today we found a beautiful #sorghum and #beans field in the mountains of #Dhofar near the Tawi Attair sinkhole....and close by what looks like an abandoned settlement! #FollowTheSorghum Thanks @camp-erc.bsky.social 😊

Last days of sampling in #Dhofar...

A well deserved day off from sampling which we spent exploring the Dhofari mountains around #Salalah, meeting with the locals and learning about traditional #pastoral practices 😁

Another day of #ethnoarchaeology in south #Oman. We are passed the 1000 samples and the dromedaries came to celebrate with us!!!!! 🐪🐪

Hard day of #fieldwork against the Dhofari wind, but still lots of ethnoarchaeological samples coming home! We are almost at 800 now 😎 Fewer dromedaries today though, so I am using a photo of them crossing the lagoon a couple of days ago 🐪🌊

Ethnoarchaeological sampling started in #Dhofar, south #Oman! Already 300 and counting.. (and some dromedaries)

Although I am more of a #crop girl, I must say that there are some pretty animals to see while doing #fieldwork with CAMP....hopefully ther would be plants though 🤩🌾

Today, we explored the area around the site of #Sumhuram and found some very nice #ethnographic sites that we will start sampling tomorrow! 💥💥 Also, dromedaries 😁 @camp-erc.bsky.social

CAMP #fieldwork in Oman just started! Stay tuned for updates with cool ethnoarchaeological sites and some more pictures of dromedaries 🐪🤩 @camp-erc.bsky.social @cl379.bsky.social

It's time! 👇🏼

Had not realized that R (>=4.0, per StackOverflow) provides selective function loading. Nice way to avoid naming conflicts. Instead of barfing a package's entire namespace into your environment when you don't need to: library(stringr, include.only = c("str_extract", "str_remove")) #rstats

Call for paper open! 2nd international Congress of Ecological Humanities to be held in #Barcelona at Universitat Pompeu Fabra #UPF on 30/06-01/07/2025 Main focus of this edition is the connection between Ecological Humanities and #PlanetaryWellbeing Send your contribution now! 👉 t.ly/0SzCT

The call for contributions to the 27th #SAfA meeting has opened! This year it will be in Faro, Portugal (21-26 July 2025). Join us at session #11: Quantitative Approaches to African Ethnoarchaeology. You can submit your abstracts via: safa2025.icarehb.com @camp-erc.bsky.social @cl379.bsky.social

Dear archaeobotanists!, On behalf of the initiative “Ethics in Archaeobotany”, I invite you to complete a questionnaire on this topic. 🌾🌱🍇🫒🪵📝 Our objective is to gather first-hand data about ethical issues that arise in our subfield. 1/6

your body is a temple mine is a collapsed Neolithic mudbrick charnel house with centuries of defleshed bones spilling out 🏺 we are not the same

Happy American Thanksgiving to all those that celebrate 🦖🦃

Signs of too much field work in #Archaeology: - Every photo you take includes a north arrow and reference measurement.

Back to the lab at UPF after a looooong time.. 🧑🏼‍🔬 🌾

An interesting way to help people visualize what a ruin used to be.

Our session "#10 #Archaeology & #Sustainability: past lessons for future adaptations to climate and environmental change" has been accepted for the next #EAA Annual Meeting in Belgrade!! The call for papers will open on December 20th. Stay tuned! @cl379.bsky.social @camp-erc.bsky.social

#Phytoliths are silica bodies formed in plants ( #PlantScience ). They enter the #Soil when the plant dies, and are used by palaeoecologists and archaeologists 🏺and other scientists 🧪 in many ways! If you work on any of this or are interested I have a starter pack (below).

🧪🏺📜 I am looking for a new job! I'm an interdisciplinary researcher and communicator with experience in archaeology, museums/heritage, digital humanities, and decolonisation. Specifically looking UK-based (West Yorkshire area). You can find my CV here. animalarchaeology.com/curriculum-v...

Colin Renfrew has passed away. A hugely influential figure in archaeology throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries. Here are a few photos of him from about 15years ago, when I was working on his Keros Project.

Hey #phytolith folks, We are helping researchers to learn about open science practices and how to embed them into phytolith research. Check out our multi-lingual website: open-phytoliths.netlify.app We have lots of resources about open access, data repositories, FAIR data, Github & ontologies.

Yet another starter pack! This one is for archaeobotany as I've not seen one around so far! I am sure I've missed many of you so please share it and comment to be included :) go.bsky.app/5fRwi48 #archaeobotany #palaeoethnobotany #carpology #phytoliths #ancientstarch #anthracology #palynology
