It was an absolutely gorgeous evening for the opening of the Chinatown Night Market, until the skies opened up into a wild rain/hail storm. Drop by Somerset and Bronson this weekend for amazing food and performances. And hopefully no more hail. Thanks for joining us, @jleiper.bsky.social!

I got my annual squid on a stick photo, come hell or high water (literally)

Before we got absolutely hammered by that storm, the Chinatown Night Market was hopping! Add sheltering in a tiny door alcove from lighting and hail to this term’s shared experiences with @arieltroster.com! It’s on all weekend!

An update on the Northwood Clinic in Chinatown: it is closing on June 9.

Being at the convention centre for a conference means I get this sweet view of my favourite piece of new cycling infrastructure in the city. This new connection helps you get off the canal bike path and into the Byward Market and Majors Hill Park without having to merge across traffic on Sussex.

Lots of Ottawa City Councillors here today at @fcm.ca. We are indeed Stronger Together. Glad to be with @lainejohnson.bsky.social @lauradudas.bsky.social Marty Carr @arieltroster.com @tkavanaghbayward.bsky.social @catherinekitts.bsky.social Cathy Curry and @timtierney.ca

It’s time for the Minto Park Sale again! The annual yard sale for people without yards, a tradition started by the great Diane Holmes. Come by Minto Park on Saturday, June 7, for lots of great finds, music by The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition and a BBQ supporting The Door Youth Centre.

What a fantastic night at the @ottawaartgallery.bsky.social Paint the Town Pink art auction and gala tonight. I love this space so much and everything that the gallery does to support local artists and a vibrant community.

Today I spoke at a rally organized by @ottawaalliance.bsky.social against Bill 6, which would criminalize homelessness and build jails, not homes.

IT’S SHOWTIME

After an intense two-day committee meeting that featured 42 delegations and a heated council meeting this week, councillors voted to direct staff to develop a bylaw to protect safe access to schools, religious institutions, daycares and long-term care facilities.

I had a wonderful time at The Door Youth Centre’s AGM tonight. Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who make this place so welcoming and special for teens in our community.

During the pandemic, downtown parks were a sea of picnic blankets with people hanging out and yes, enjoying the odd beer. The sky did not fall. People in Centretown are among the least likely in Ottawa to have access to back yards or even balconies. www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/artic...

Huge day for the Usher of the Black Rod.

I was quite close to the Queen of England yesterday. Anticlimactic overall, but it was a beautiful day and I was thrilled that the kids from @orkidstra.bsky.social got to play for the Royals.

Do you know anyone who is missing a sheep?!?

This issue comes back to council for a vote on Wednesday

I got to slam balls AND lift heavy things at the gym this morning and the sun has made its triumphant return. Amazing how this makes me less murdery.

Another year, another excellent Dalhousie Community Association AGM. So grateful to everyone who pitches in and does the hard work to make our community thrive.

Across the country mid-size festivals are struggling to manage new security costs. Without help, the events that make our neighbourhoods great communities are going to disappear. There are low-cost solutions, for sure, and the City can and should own and lend equipment. But funding is needed.

Had a wonderful time joining one of Donald Kwan’s walking tours of Chinatown. I learned so much about the history of my favourite Ottawa neighbourhood and also about Canada’s racist anti-Asian history.

Pretty decent haul for kiddo from the Great Glebe Garage Sale. Lots of people out, despite the crap weather. And so many good dogs.

One day we will see the sun again.
