With that much unknown, it's still so difficult to comment on the disarmament call by Ocalan. Even as someone from Turkey who is actively involved in politics, I can't see the picture. The statement is ambigious in many aspects as it doesn't say anything about how the disarmament process+

Historical statement from Ocalan, leader of armed Kurdish movement. Sirri Sureyta Onder saluted everyone who has fought for peace so far, emphasising the role of Academics for Peace in Turkey.

A systemic disaster. In a world of machine-generated fakes and hallucinations, small group instruction and robust assessment *are* what universities can offer. But instead of more teachers and unseen exams we’re going to get a pointless ‘AI’ arms race. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

If you want to know how far autocracy can go: In Turkey, to be a presidential candidate, you need to have a bachelor degree. This is the candidate who'll run against Erdogan in the next election. Hell win. Today, the prosecution asked the univ, from which he graduated to cancel his bachelor degree.

How true! This is from a fascinating interview by @jwmueller-pu.bsky.social Although, I partly disagree with the way that he conceptualises populism, I think this is a great interview that everyone who is trying to make sense of what's going on must read. thepointmag.com/dialogue/the...

Deeper into cruel stupidity

It's in the Turkish media outlets too - as a victory of Erdogan, of course. A strategic step towards a new Trumpian world order.

And this is US. Both in the US and Germany, indeed there is a stark difference between young men and young women.

Germany 🤞

these are the kind of moves that'll eventually move the needle towards shifting power away from tech oligarchs

Heather Cox Richardson in a calm tone - is alarming: “Trump has captured the intelligence services, the Justice Department, and the FBI,” military specialist Tom Nichols wrote.. “the military is the last piece he needs to establish the foundations for authoritarian control of the U.S. government.”

Wow. It’s a bit unnerving seeing it like this

It still strikes me the fact that sometimes you don't write a sentence for weeks and then suddenly you write pages in one day. Can everyday be like today, please? 🙏

I liked the notion of 'legislator' vs 'politician'

In his first term, Trump was defeated by the combination of BLM and the anger for the way that he dealt with Covid. Now, Trump's shock and awe tactics specifically aims at eliminating any possible fight back not only from the elites but more importantly from people.+

"Anti-migrant politics will not build a single house, staff a single hospital or raise anyone’s wages. Instead, by echoing its rhetoric, the government is simply fuelling the rise of Reform UK" Well done to these Labour MPs, trade unionists, and members. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Oh they are so splendid.

New in PN: AOC shows how to fight back and stand strong "Prominent figures standing up can undermine the climate of fear that MAGA relies on to impose terror. AOC’s work on behalf of her constituents and refusal to be intimidated are models of resistance other Democrats would do well to imitate."

It's interesting to see how prominent political scientists who have studied democracies, autocracies and transitions from one to another are analysing what's happening in the US now. Challenging time for comparative politics. Here is Larry Diamond's analysis: www.theunpopulist.net/p/trumps-ame...

Adam Przeworski, one of the prominent political scientists of our time, says, "I have spent a good part of my life, 50 years, thinking about political regimes, categorizing them, studying their dynamics, and their effects. And I find myself at a loss. I am trying to find categories in which to+

I think polling is increasingly becoming a very problematic tool to understand the society. Yes, I don't work with a fascist - I categorically refuse this. Of course, I agree that we need to be able to persuade people and win them. But this has nothing to do+ www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
