TWO WEEKS UNTIL #STANDUPFORSCIENCE2025! 📣☀️🌎

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist. And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation. A 🧵:

The 1980s are calling, they want their failed policies back.

Again please share our study on the executive orders in academia iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

The University of Virginia has created a website of archived government websites—bookmark it—you’re going to need it later. guides.lib.virginia.edu/c.php?g=1451...

🧵 US states that implemented abortion bans saw higher than expected infant mortality rates, with larger increases among Black infants and those in southern states, according to this analysis of US national vital statistics data from 2012–2023. ja.ma/4aVchPn #MedSky

Stand Up for Science rallies will be held in DC and state capitals on March 7th. Share with friends. Sign-up here to get email updates with details: www.eventbrite.com/e/stand-up-f...

#WomenInScienceDay In case you want to read the original study described in the piece from Science, here's the link to the 2018 paper by @davidimiller.bsky.social et al. srcd.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

When asked to draw a scientist, school-age kids in the United States are increasingly sketching women, according to a study from 2018. Read more on #WomenInScienceDay: https://scim.ag/4hOUuvx

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

Gotta say… eating a box of Tagalong #girlscoutcookies was real mood-boosting for me this weekend. To lighten your feed, what’s your favorite #girlscoutcookie ??

Get in Dorks, we are going protesting. STAND UP FOR SCIENCE. MARCH 7th 12-4pm. DC AND YOUR STATE CAPITALS. More information to come.

I shouldn’t laugh at this but I somehow needed to.

“...to care is an act not of weakness, but of strength.” The Lancet response: bit.ly/4jRb5Av

Clever study looking at response time in completing surveys and cognitive outcome. A non-obtrusive way to gather processing speed data that relates to cog. outcomes. No formal testing of cog outcomes.

To help people understand the importance of NIH, share what you’ve used their funding for (in easily understandable terms). I’ll start: my NIH postdoc funding helped me develop and test AI tools that could identify skin cancer across diverse skin tones.

Hi, Vox reporter here: If you've had a study section, NIH travel, or other NIH-related meeting cancelled (or not), raise your hand! Reply or DM me, and repost for visibility if you're able. #academicsky @drugmonkey.bsky.social

If you are directly affected by a cancellation of a meeting you were scheduled to participate in or at which your grant may have been discussed, consider reaching out.

𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 Any compelling evidence that looking into brain can go beyond what can be obtained with clinical/behavioral exam? E.g., can we understand one's anxiety and its treatment if in addition to clin/behav evaluation we evaluate the brain?

Ok all I am confused because I see folks on Twitter(X) and BlueSky. Suspending my amazement of time for a moment, what are you using each platform for? I get the sense that X has remained traditional “academic twitter” and BlueSky is for “real life”. Thoughts? Suggestions? Hot takes?

Just out in Development & Psychopathology... "Economic hardship and adolescent behavioral outcomes: Within- and between-family associations" www.cambridge.org/core/journal... Super interesting collaborative work where we measure income monthly over most of a year #PleaseReshare

I find it challenging to keep up with norms across fields for best practices. Sharing this because I did not know someone had written a guide for posting and managing pre-prints (for psych)!

Pleasantly surprised by the thoroughness of NSF reviews of my CAREER grant app! Not funded, but helpful comments and it’s clear the reviewers all read the proposal in detail. Wild that it’s an unpaid service, but if you reviewed my grant, I see you! On to the next!

This is a great summary of a paper I collaborated on with colleagues from Duke, Mt Sinai, & Wake Forest! jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
