The PAN-GO paper is a remarkable milestone. It not only provides the most comprehensive picture of human gene function to date, but also carefully maps this knowledge across the tree of life! Congratulations @marcfeuermann.bsky.social, Pascale Gaudet & collaborators! www.sib.swiss/news/sib-hel...

Do you use Darwin Tree of Life (DToL) genomes for your work or grant applications? If so, can you please fill out this form? docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... We are gathering info on how DToL genomes are used. It will help us raise money to continue producing publicly available high-quality genomes.

globally, there are ~3500 described mosquito species in the Culicidae family and many of these are important vectors of disease but only a small percentage have genomic resources. we are launching a pilot project to generate high quality reference genomes for 100 important mosquito species [1/3]

Paper out !!🥳big thanks to all authors @marliesoomen.bsky.social @diego-rt.bsky.social @kaessmannlab.bsky.social @jonathangoeke.bsky.social @lorenzamottes.bsky.social & 'bluesky-less' Lots of interesting new TE (& genes) biology Data fully browsable💻 👉 embryo.helmholtz-munich.de/shiny_embryo/

I am thrilled to share our new review on holocentric chromosomes. It was a lot of fun to write it together with Ines Drinnenberg! Same but different: Centromere regulations in holocentric insects and plants doi.org/10.1016/j.ce...

Woohoo! Our image made the cover! 🎉 @jexpbiol.bsky.social The image captures photosymbiotic Anemonia viridis pointing it's tentacles towards the light. journals.biologists.com/jeb

So excited to announce that our study on the development and evolution of pallial cell types and structures in birds, led by @bassi-z.bsky.social, is now out in @science.org! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

This has been a fantastic adventure - to capture the genomic regulatory code underlying brain cell types (using deep learning models trained on chromatin accessibility), and then use these models to compare cell types between the bird and mammalian brain

With @katiejenike.bsky.social and a bunch more of our fellow k-mer enthusiasts, we put together a manuscript on k-mers in biodiversity genomics. A guide if you will, that covers k-mers from basics to some really funky stuff... genome.cshlp.org/content/35/2...

🚨Preprint Alert🚨 I'm really happy to finally share our exploits in red algae and introduce the wider community to Bostrychia, the new model system we have been developing to tackle the molecular biology of red algae. Isn't she a beauty? Thread below 🧵 1/8 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Our latest work: how can compartmentalization emerge in a eukaryotic genome lacking canonical heterochromatin? By investigating bacterial genomes put in yeast, we show that the presence or absence of transcription is sufficient! #chromatin #3Dgenome #generegulation www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 👇

Job alert! We are seeking a research technician and lab manager to join our lab and an ERC funded project. If you'd like to work with beautiful insects in beautiful Barcelona, don't hesitate and contact us: www.mayflyecoevodevo.com/joinus

Our new preprint is out: biorxiv.org/content/10.1... We computationally investigated properties of alternative coding isoforms of human TF genes. Huge thanks to my collaborator Dr Koustav Pal and my supervisors Professors Nicholas Luscombe and @borislenhard.bsky.social!

Hi folks, I'm excited to share a whale of a tale (sorry, bad pun), where we engineer snowflake yeast to express sperm whale myoglobin, and explore how oxygen-binding proteins may have helped overcome anatomical limitations to early multicellularity. 🧪 #MEvoSky journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

There has been a couple of manuscripts released regarding transcription factor footprinting - or digital genomic footprinting (DGF) as we call it. I would like to put some of the claims, results and conclusions in context, since I have worked and published on this for ~15 years. 1/n

Do you have experience in building transgenic tools and fluorescent markers? Are you interested in developing new tools in a non-conventional model, to observe and genetically manipulate cells during leg regeneration? Please send me a message. Research assistant/engineer post to open soon.

We are happy to share our enhancer scramble story, a strategy to create hundreds of stochastic deletions, inversions, and duplications within mammalian gene regulatory regions and associate these new architectures with gene expression levels 🧵 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

How to do differential expression with scRNAseq data? State of the art is "pseudo-bulk" analysis with RNA-seq methods like edgeR or DESeq2, where "cell type" is encoded as discrete categories. Biologically, discrete categories are not always the most appropriate concept.(1/3) doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Our ChromBPNet preprint out! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... Huge congrats to Anusri! This was quite a slog (for both of us) but we r very proud of this one! It is a long read but worth it IMHO. Methods r in the supp. materials. Bluetorial coming soon below 1/

The wasp mantisfly, Climaciella brunnea, is not a wasp, a mantis, or a fly. It is instead a type of spider-eating lacewing that keeps itself safe by looking like it has a painful sting, which is does not. Evolution continues to be marvelous. 🧪 #Entomology

We’re recruiting a PhD student to use comparative omics to investigate why some viruses can efficiently infect both human and mosquito cells, but lead to different infection outcomes. Fully funded position by @evomg-bcn.bsky.social at our lab at UPF-CRG and the Diez lab. www.crg.eu/en/content/t...
