Jeff’s response is perfect. Ack.

A good exercise for the "I'll just wait 4 years" crowd: - Make a list of all the bad Bush-era policies Obama rolled back - Make a list of all the bad Trump-era policies Biden rolled back

your regular reminder that authoritarian populism will make your country corrupt and poor. look at Hungary

Zachary Terrell is the newly-reported DOGE name at NSF canceling grants along with Luke Farritor. Terrell is a 25-yr-old engineer from Kansas who was a developer at Spindl. He's an edgelord who goes by "Based Retard" on Warpcast. On X he follows "race scientist" and VDARE columnist Steve Sailer./

I’m not kidding you when I say my work exposed Border Patrol’s rape culture, illegal coverup teams, the atrocities of deterrence policies, corruption,…Find out why BP Chief Rodney Scott has stated my writings/work have caused the Border Patrol a lot of problems. Available everywhere online.

one last post on international students -- public opinion is not in the administration's favor on this, and universities should not let them forget it

Your key takeaway from the brilliant Ukraine attack with small drones into Russia shouldn’t be “wow, small drones make it so easy to score huge hits,” it should be “wow, Ukrainians are insanely good at covertly planning and executing extraordinarily difficult missions of which drones are one part”.

‘Combined Classics’ - my cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com books.

This is the kind of sweeping, truth-telling journalism we need more of. Good job, AP.

"Immigration officials — facing aggressive arrest quotas for the Trump administration's mass-deportation campaign — have been frustrated by advocates' work to educate the public on their right to refuse entry to immigration agents who don't have proper documentation." ... so they lie

The newest budget numbers out of NSF are... not good. We're looking at worse than worst case scenarios for U.S. research universities. That's in addition to all the other attacks. Every person w/ a word processer and an hour of time should be penning an op-ed to their local papers this weekend.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

every article about politics in every mainstream publication is flat out lying to you if it does not emphasize that our government has been taken over by freaks and lunatics

👇🎯 This cannot be said often or loud enough. Again, there are two, & only two, solutions to our authoritarian problem, & <both> involve a subset of Republicans deciding they value democracy over power. <Everyone's> allocation of effort is wildly misallocated right now: bsky.app/profile/mcop...

In other news, I hear there’s gambling at Rick’s and the Pope is Catholic

Interesting piece on the Nazi junkie, strung out on a huge array of drugs seemingly at all times, who effectively destroyed huge sectors of the US government and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people so far. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/u...

My thoughts on how to protest ICE raids & help victims. open.substack.com/pub/jennbudd...

MUST WATCH: ICE kidnapped a disabled American citizen. Her name is Alma Bowman. Born in the Philippines while her dad served in the U.S. Navy. She’s lived here 48 years. They crashed her wheelchair, denied meds, cut her off from her lawyer—and jailed her. She. Is. A. Citizen.

"What are three things that have never been in my kitchen?"

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’ve never respected a Harvard student more than right now www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

Update: reports today that multiple legal observers were arrested today in New York at two separate immigration courts, for allegedly “obstructing” ICE. Not only that, apparently some immigration courts are barring the public from attending hearings. This mess is escalating fast.

Five years ago today, George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin. He should still be alive.

"Do you enjoy living a long healthy life? I sure do, and the reason we live as well as we do is because of federally funded research. Are you pro cancer, pro dementia, pro heart disease? Are you in favor of children dying before age 5? If you vote Republican, that is what you are endorsing."

THREAD. A lot of attention is rightly going to Medicaid cuts and other very bad things in Trump's bill passed by the House, but there's something else that isn't getting enough attention, that is very difficult to find in any news coverage, but that will fundamentally alter life for all of us.

Look, there are a lot of valid criticisms to make of the Ivies, but “fuck this administration, we’re making our civics courses free so you can understand WHY fuck this administration” is a baller move. 3 cheers for prosocial spite.
