The large clinical trial of a new Covid vaccine pill (not shot) was halted by RFK Jr www.aol.com/multimillion... The Covid nasal vaccines may be next up to be axed.

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

…especially the last part about repair, which we in the #USA failed to do in the aftermath of #Trump’s first #coup (unlike #Brazil and #Bolsonaro) while we had a much better chance than we will for quite some time now.

My fellow historian of early America, and fellow student of the very conservative historian Gordon Wood, wrote a very sober piece recently that came to a similar conclusion. It's truly crazy-making how many of our fellow Americans look upon what's happening as if it's totally normal.

This is a hard but necessary read: ending USAID means children starve to death.

Basic authoritarian stuff: the government revolves around protecting the President and punishing his enemies. Completely inconsistent with democratic norms, but will barely be a blip in the news in our new regime.

House Republicans just voted to gut Medicaid, which covers 1 in 5 Americans overall, including 41% of births and 63% of nursing home care. They also just voted to gut SNAP, on which 41 million food insecure Americans rely. This won’t just harm people. This will kill people. They own this.

Genuinely, is there a meaningful difference between the terms at this point? No point in labeling statements by #Trump #racist when that is implicit.

🌈 most reversals of democratic breakdown (1977 India; 2022 Brazil; 2023 Poland; [France 1934-38]) have been accomplished by radically large-tent, cross-ideological coalitions w/ little in common except a desire for the continuation of a Constitutional order shatterzone.substack.com/p/democratic...

It's from collecting all the egg.

Pritzker: "We're talking about the death of a constitutional republic. That's what happened in Germany in 1933, 1934. And we're seeing today that we've got an administration in Washington that's ignoring court orders."

Is this a "you can't fire me, I quit" type situation? As in, would not be surprised if our allies had gotten more skittish about sharing intel with us, with Tulsi Gabbard as DNI, Kash Patel leading FBI, etc.

Operatives working for Elon Musk’s DOGE appear to be editing the code of AutoRIF—software designed by the Defense Department that could assist in mass firings of federal workers, sources tell WIRED.

Those are brownshirts and concentration camps and the people writing these stories need to start calling them what they are.

Amazing lack of self-awareness from Clarence Thomas, who takes a dig at Oklahoma's attorney general for appointing a "personal friend and campaign donor" to review Glossip's case. HAPPENING NOW: A federal judge who ordered the unfreezing of USAID contract spending is voicing frustration as a Trump administration lawyer repeatedly refuses to say whether they have actually taken any steps to implement his 12-day-old order.

Usually the counterpoint to “president says false thing” is not “BUT he believes it.”

You're plugged in and have heard comparisons of DOGE and Gamergate in passing. I took a deeper dive — but still a short, breezy read — explaining how it goes much deeper than a comparison. Gamergate was whiner boot camp. DOGE is the Loser Invasion. www.salon.com/2025/02/24/w...

Bari, whose book ‘How to Fight Antisemitism’ made the ludicrous claim that left-wing antisemitism was more dangerous than Neo-Nazis because it was more “insidious”, is publishing articles arguing we shouldn’t be too concerned about Republicans giving Nazi salutes on stage at political conferences.

Bari Weiss showing she's the main Jewish person in charge of fighting antisemitism by (checks notes) apologizing for Nazis.

This is such a good piece. It threads the needle to explain a complex concept in a relatable way. And despite the title, I found it hopeful and reassuring that we CAN combat the urge to justify humanity's worst impulses.

in my experience judges love being told that something is at once both (1) undefined and maybe knowable and (2) totally above board
