i can’t take the hypocrisy in so much western media coverage of israel’s bombing of iran and iran’s retaliation. israel can do whatever it wants and they’ll find a way to legitimize it, but iran is positioned as fundamentally evil and thus deserving of attack and bloodthirsty in its response.

On this day in 1954, the United States orchestrated a coup against Jacobo Árbenz, the progressive and democratically-elected leader of Guatemala, because he sought to restore land to small farmers and Indigenous communities that had been dispossessed by US fruit companies.

i want my fridge to keep food cold. i do not want it to talk to me.

“Blackout” 1/3

US “democracy”, where billionaires openly brag about buying elections and demand obeisance from political leaders.

Why are we doing any of this? Seems like big tech is inventing a new kind of nuclear weapon for no reason at all.

In 1995, Jeff Bezos's parents, Jackie and Mike Bezos, invested $245,573 in Amazon.com, which was a loan to help Bezos start his online bookstore. Entrepreneurship is a carnival game.

Yet another reason to get off Gmail and try to lessen your reliance on Google altogether. There are plenty of good alternatives. I use ProtonMail, for example.

BREAKING: An Israeli airstrike on a school-turned-shelter has killed at least 25 Palestinians, mostly women and children, Gaza's Health Ministry said. The school was hit three times while people slept, setting their belongings ablaze, they added.

This feels.. fake. Can't say if it's really true, but smells like propaganda..

I think about this comic at least once a week

World Central Kitchen has run out of food to serve in Gaza. Its bakery ("recently the last working bakery in Gaza") is out of flour. There are 100,000+ tons of food in staging areas within driving distance of Gaza, and Israel refuses to let them in wck.org/news/gaza-up...

This is an official plan for ethnic cleansing. If you supported Israel for the past 18 months or so under the assumption that this was about the hostages you were taken for a ride. If you still support Israel's assault on Gaza, you support ethnic cleansing. It's that simple.

I hope everyone working on LLMs has reckoned with their role in building a technology that, so far, has offered little to no benefit to humanity — while causing real harm by degrading art, undermining labor in creative industries, and straight up automating political propaganda

Researchers are looking for safe havens. Investors are looking for safe havens. If there was ever a moment for Europe to (at minimum) double R&D spending, it would be now.

God the EU Commission is exhausting. Do these people seriously think they can demand a “lawful access” backdoor in US-hosted messaging apps, and that US intelligence *won’t* use that tool to relentlessly spy on EU interests? www.politico.eu/article/encr...

yet another reason not to use uber: if a driver takes off with your sleeping kid in the back seat, they won’t help you or the police to find your kid or contact the driver. how this company continues to be allowed to operate under its current model is baffling to me.
