Having just heard that the only bus that comes once per day to our village is now at risk, this is a serious reality for many rural communities.

From North Carolina to Nepal, climate change isn’t just a tragedy, it’s a crime. Exxon knew in the 70s that the burning of fossil fuels would destabilize the climate, but they lied about it to protect their $$$. Time to pay for the damage they've caused. #ActOnClimate

Winner of my ‘Footpath Of The Week’ award for this week.

Referendum on Proportional Representation petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70... We're not pushing hard enough for this. First Past the Post means Labour always move further to the right and people end up voting for Reform policies under Labour just to keep Reform out which is madness.

Pedestrian commercial streets are wildly popular in every corner of the globe. Even in Seattle!

Another report confirming what we have known FOR YEARS. Seems like the politicians aren't listening. Or the health officials. Or the transport planners. Anyone out there who gets this stuff ?

Here are just 10 ways bicycles deliver the freedom that cars can only promise. momentummag.com/here-are-jus...

Heidi Alexander was in front of the Transport Committee for the 1st time y/day. She closed on a good note: “I would look back on my time as Transport Secretary as a success if people are stepping out of their doors... and seeing that public transport offers a more attractive option than their car”

Male teachers are vanishing from UK classrooms – - leaving boys without role models, and education facing a quiet but urgent crisis.

The Mrs once, as an adult, didn't know how to ride a bike. I taught her how and we got her a series of Tern ebikes. Nowadays, she's a cargo hauler, leaving the car at home and thinking nothing of it. E-cargo bikes are enabling.

On the day this pressure group celebrates the government tabling 4 new cycling laws to amend the Crime & Policing Bill in which cyclists who kill pedestrians will face life sentences, another driver avoids jail for killing a cyclist, even after admitting guilt.

Sadiq Khan / TfL gave the go ahead for a road tunnel without building an equivalent fixed cycle bridge/tunnel in east london … so critical mass took things into their own hands and turned the Silvertown tunnel into a cycle route.

the way.

I live on a cycling route in Hackney and have had a Telraam cycle counter for six months. Yesterday, it recorded an impressive 2,441 cycles, despite not counting overlapping cyclists or tracking at night. If you provide people with safe routes to cycle, the results speak for themselves

"Reform UK is launching a drive to raise funds from wealthy offshore donors in low-tax jurisdictions taking advantage of Britain’s loose [election] funding rules" "Reform was targeting donors in the oil & gas sector...Reform has criticised UK’s net zero target" www.ft.com/content/b133...

So the first real policy decision on active travel or road safety by this government is a law targeting cyclists which will do nothing for road safety, briefed to a newspaper which openly hates cycling. Whatever your hopes for active travel from current ministers, perhaps calibrate these downwards.

Pennine Way ramblers honour 'visionary' on 60th anniversary www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Positive statements from Lilian Greenwood, Roads Minister, at this debate: “… active travel is one of the strongest interventions that we can make to boost the health of the nation” “I wholeheartedly agree that we can and should do better than a decade of stagnation when it comes to road deaths.”

30kmh limit in Bologna reduces casualties, increases active mobility and reduces emissions. Plus support increases over time as people "feel safer" in the more inclusive environment that comes from a 30km/h city. bit.ly/3YGVVVA

The rational behind this seems like “but its hard” Its not - stop funding cars and start properly funding public and active travel www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is a story about deep sea mining, beautifully told. Mining something that takes millions of years to form. What could go wrong? Ehm…🛢️👀 Letting an industry with a terrible record on land do the same in the ocean where there’s way less oversight. What could go wrong? 🤔

📢A new study from @uniofbath.bsky.social shows London's low emissions zones have had major benefits for human health and the economy, with a 10.2% decrease in respiratory issues following LEZ implementation, an **18.5%** reduction in sick leave, and annual public health savings of over £37 million.

Of course, it goes w/o saying that drivers who kill cyclists, commonly dont even face custodial sentences. www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ap...

So today they have announced that the only bus that comes once per day to the village I live in, is due to stop. It’s madness.

i *hate* cars and think they have almost no place in cities - and this was still a great read.

💥London bucks national trends as cycling boom continues💥 New City of London data shows biggest increase cycling since records began: 📈cycling up 57% since 2022 🚲🚲nearly 2x more bikes than cars 📈500% increase in cycling since 1999 www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/assets/Servi...

It's the first time I've travelled with Eurostar for ages and even longer since I've started in St P... There aren't big queues outside today, but it's still completely rammed inside the secure area. Solving this challenge is crucial to improve connectivity with our closest neighbours.

Labour have just really given up. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Perhaps we might live longer and be happier too, if certain national newspapers didn’t whip up hate every time somebody mentions cycle lanes, LTNs, or 15 minute cities. @telegraphnews.bsky.social

MPs making the case for safe infrastructure for walking and cycling, especially on routes to schools, plus 20mph zones and dealing with pavement parking; but lots of examples of dangerous streets around schools and local reluctance to tackle the issues: hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2025...

"Scottish government drops target to cut car use by 20%" OK, it is too complex an issue for a single social media jibe, but achieving such an ambitious target needed ambitious investment in long-distance alternatives. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Want to get cities moving? Build cycle lanes These eight cyclists occupy the same space as the single-occupant Kia 5 on the right. Private cars are inefficient in urban areas. Furthermore, for those who still prefer driving, more cyclists means fewer drivers on the road. Win-Win

And the authorities who don't think we merit infrastructural measures to protect us from them....

Pleased to see our local BBC highlighting this fundamental injustice. Use of recycling centers paid for by all reserved exclusively for car owners. Love this quote from Pamela Pritchard: "The world does not revolve around car drivers." @bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social clearly disagrees.

Cycling is all about the freedom, the joy, and the excitement it brings. It’s an adventure whether you’re racing down a hill or cruising through a quiet street, there’s a unique thrill that only a bike ride can offer. It’s not just a mode of transport it’s a way to feel alive.🤩

"We need to start thinking of transport as a public health intervention as much as an intervention that can stimulate economic growth" - Heidi Alexander to the Transport Committee this morning Please support our active travel funding cuts challenge www.crowdjustice.com/case/stop-th...

New @ECIU_UK analysis finds UK’s electricity supply has become more British over the past decade. Simon Cran-McGreehin, @ECIU_UK comments: “UK industry has suffered from the ongoing gas price crisis which started in 2021 pushing up energy bills" eciu.net/media/press...

Sure that will be eclipsed by the additional costs of the chosen funding method.

As more of the world increases renewables they also gain independence from having to import energy and fossil fuels.
