Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors is this thread. Absolutely delightful.

Fuuuck. This is just evil. They are actively trying to kill people.

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors: The chicken salad sandwich I had for lunch was so delicious! It was loaded up with walnuts and craisins. And on a croissant! And a side of damn good pesto pasta salad. Nom nom nom.

I know this is tiny so check the alt text. Y’all gotta leave me alone about a one day boycott—it’s got to start with one day and hold. Retailers won’t notice one day. They have several bad days a month.

Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker - published almost exactly 70 years ago in April 1955 - features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist and rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea!

“…the world now traumatized by a cluster of hostile humans who side with their warlords of hate, so we must out-create with the backbone of night to re-humanize…their tower of confusion cannot drown the light from your star…” Bang // Tori Amos

Me: Why have my feet suddenly been feeling sore the last couple of days? My Fitbit App:

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors is this. The power of Musical Theater should not be underestimated.

Perhaps going to Sonic during the dinner rush was not the world's best idea. 🫤 Sorry mom, you're gonna be waiting a while to get your cherry limeade.

It’s a good day for looking very closely at mosses

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Hey: If you made it through the week, and you tried to do some things to help other people — large or small — where you could, and you need to hear it, I’m here to tell you thank you. Get some rest. Figure out today, then figure out tomorrow.

"When did you know?" [Not when it was released, but upon rewatches a couple years later when I was about the same age Noah Hathaway was during filming]

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors: Stuffing my face with Taco Cabana for dinner. It's a treat I only have access to when visiting Texas. One of the few plus sides to coming here.

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors: True Detective: Night Country. I had heard the raves about it, And finally got around to watching it. Finished it today. Mixing some Supernatural Horror into a Police Procedural was an interesting angle, and I think it worked!

Good thoughts

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors: @angermonkey.bsky.social , being an amazing friend, and talking me down from my stressed out panic over Elder Care Issues this morning. (Shout out also to non-bsky S. for also providing helpful, calming advice).

Ok I'm posting a second Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors for today: Paramount+ now has all(?) the old MTV Unplugged episodes from the 90s. I'm watching the Tori Amos one right now, and I had forgotten how absolutely mesmerizing this performance was. Her voice is like ambrosia right into my veins.

Just watched this week's Elsbeth, and realized I desperately need a hot Scottish boyfriend.

*groooaaannnnn* 🤣

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors: Stayed in bed till 1pm, literally ignoring The Horrors as long as possible.

It's weird as a biologist to say "ignore the science part" but here we are Science: Vaccines don't cause autism. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. If vaccines caused autism I would still recommend them. Dying of preventable disease is bad. Autism isn't a disease and most of the "bad" of autism is society.

Today's Happy Thing Amidst The Horrors: Observing Singles Awareness Day with a mountain of Mexican food and a cheesy lighthearted Friday Night Movie.

Woke up this morning with "Sh-Boom" stuck in my head. You know, that song that's prominently featured in Clue? Yeah, that one. "...life could be a dream, sweetheart..."

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! 💕
