Human infants require and receive enormous investments of caregiving. But what do they know or understand about caregiving relationships? New essay with @ashleyjthomas.bsky.social @alisongopnik.bsky.social and Christina Steele, in a special issue of Daedalus. www.amacad.org/daedalus/how...

In the midst of … everything, I’m increasingly convinced of the importance of care. It was a pleasure to think through what this means, why it matters — ideas now out in a special issue edited by @alisongopnik.bsky.social, @mlevi.bsky.social, and Zack Ugolnik 🧵 www.amacad.org/daedalus/soc...

New Daedalus issue on the science of caregiving. In our paper, we ask, how might infants experience caregiving? Writing this paper with Christina Steele, @alisongopnik.bsky.social and @rebeccasaxe.bsky.social was incredibly fun. Our paper and the other awesome pieces here: www.amacad.org/daedalus

I am starting a thread of links to federal sites on the Wayback Machine, before the current vandalism. Please RT and add to this list! CDC: web.archive.org/web/20250129... NIH: web.archive.org/web/20250129... USAID: web.archive.org/web/20250129...

Just incase, a friend downloaded the CDC vaccine schedule for kids and adults and I put it in a dropbox folder here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/psiuq...

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

Does anyone know if there are conversations about organizing scientists through our societies (e.g., Cog Dev, SRCD, or cog sci?). To put pressure on our politicians about NIH/NSF? I can't find it, but saw someone who used to work in the capitol blue-skied this could be an effective strategy.

Does the culture you grow up in shape the way you see the world? In a new Psych Review paper, @chazfirestone.bsky.social & I tackle this centuries-old question using the Müller-Lyer illusion as a case study. Come think through one of history's mysteries with us🧵(1/13):

Excited to share that our BBS target article — "Children as agents of cultural adaptation" — is online & open for commentary! In it, @sheinalew.bsky.social & I argue that children's peer cultures might play an important & understudied role in cultural adaptation. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

New work in PNAS Nexus with @mlandauwells.bsky.social and @rebeccasaxe.bsky.social We ask: if two groups hold opposing beliefs, when does debunking by an authority lead to belief convergence and when does polarization persist? Paper: tinyurl.com/mr2e4kvx MIT News: tinyurl.com/3bud9z4f 🧵1/N

With everyone joining Blue Sky, I'm looking forward to once again having 25 tabs open of papers I will definitely read eventually. (really though, I'm so excited! I really miss finding out about new work, especially in adjacent fields)

Incredible!

I love this paper :)

Hard to describe to nonparents what it means that BOTH of my children slept in until 9:30 this morning.

We ask children to predict who are 'best friends' in several studies. Interesting its use has such a sharp increase recently.

[Please "rebsky"!] My paper, 'Cognitive Representations of Social Relationships and their Developmental Origins" has been accepted at Behavioral and Brain Sciences! I'm thrilled to be able to engage with people's commentary. Please consider writing one! osf.io/preprints/ps...
