Badenoch "We have too many QUANGOs" * Interviewer: "Which QUANGOs would you cut?" "Sorry Emma, but you are just trying to change the focus of what I'm talking about..." * Quasi autonomous non-government organisations. Peak usage by Cameron during his "Bonfire of the quangos" crusade a decade ago

good morning friends 💚✨

Quick story about how profoundly JK Rowling has changed. She once sought to help a young woman of colour who, she believed (rightly), had been targeted by a notorious right wing self publicist working with Jonathan Ames and then thrown under a bus by Edinburgh Uni. She wanted me to assist.

If Westminster rule delivers terrible outcomes under the Tories, no discernible philosophy or change under Labour, and the prospect of Farage as Prime Minister, what exactly is the case for Scotland remaining part of the UK?

Here’s the thing, if they are picking up folks working in the country illegally, I’m going to need to see some white guys also being arrested for employing people working illegally in the country. Otherwise, it’s just racism.

As a Lib Dem member I'm disappointed @jessbrownfullermp.bsky.social couldn't answer the question on Dr's getting a pay rise on #QuestionTime Surely working with the unions on a proper strategy for proper pay.

The knives are properly out for Kishwer Faulkner and the little clique of culture warriors masquerading as regulators she has gathered around her. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

It's 2025, not 1952. That a current UK government - and a Labour government at that - is seriously proposing this should send a chill down the spine of everyone who values civil rights and understands history. This should have no place in a civilised society.

Things you won't read about in The Times. Or hear broadcast from Her Majesty's yacht. www.ohchr.org/en/press-rel...

I do hope so. The country needs Labour in Government - not a dime store Reform.

These people are relentlessly evil

Delighted that over half of @libdems.org.uk MPs have signed @cajardinemp.bsky.social's Early Day Motion on making sure parties step up on #transrights, including the Chief Whip, Deputy Leader and Home Affairs spokes. Looking out for more, of course. 👀 And thanks to @elliechowns.bsky.social too. 🙂💛💚

Putin signed an executive order on "monitoring of harm caused to Russia by foreign sources." I wonder if anyone will ever tally up the harm caused to Russia by Putin during his reign. The order is supposed to work on "improvement of the protection of Russia's national interests."

Last year my wife had breast cancer and a double mastectomy. This morning, for the first time ever, she was challenged in the changing rooms at the swimming pool. Her breasts were not what make her a woman - but, breasts or not, she is entitled to dignity and protection from vigilantes.

Labour's 'fuck the young' policies bearing predictable electoral fruit.

As the UN's humanitarian chief warns that 14,000 babies could die in Gaza within the next 48 hours without aid, I am remembering Amol Rajan telling Gary Lineker: "the BBC as a whole needs to be impartial about it".

Thank you Gary Lineker for using the platform you earned with your talent and charm to stand up for some of the most victimised people in the world. You're a shining example to us all.

"The stark and needlessly cruel position adopted by the Government humiliates trans people by forcing them to use the wrong toilets and obliges them to reveal deeply personal information about their gender to complete strangers" ✍️ Jo Maugham www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202... @goodlawproject.org

Thank you for speaking so well on this, Charlotte! 💛

We need to be relentless in pushing MPs on the Supreme Court ruling. We already hear that it has been noticed, and it is making a massive effect. And we thought we would put a bunch of these letter writing campaigns into a small thread.

Jonathan Hall is speaking at Policy Exchange today, and if the reporting of his planned speech is accurate, some of these points are being put in an extraordinarily inept way, making it sound like any pro trans, feminist or anti racist discourse is undermining the UK and sustained by hostile powers:

Ooft. The Black Equity Organization, which Starmer's own Foreign Secretary David Lammy founded, has criticized his pattern of “narratives and policy decisions” raising concerns that the “dignity, safety and rights” of minority communities were being undermined. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

The biggest self own I've ever seen Literally had to log in to Twitter to check with my own eyes that this post from Graham Linehan was real. Fml. Genuinely unbelievable

They really are vile people.

I can't stop thinking about how the "Gender Critical" response to hundreds of leading UK biologists signing a letter saying sex isn't binary or immutable is "I can't believe that school kids know more about biology than these biologists". Can you imagine saying that out loud without thinking?! Mad

"Can you work for the BBC and outwardly express opinions?" asks Radio 4 Today whose presenter Justin Webb routinely uses his platform on Radio 4 Today to express his negative views about trans people.

Intersectional feminists know that trans people are just a wedge issue for the patriarchal forces trying to push back abortion rights, gay rights, assisted dying and the emancipation of women and people of colour. We stand together or fall apart. observer.co.uk/news/nationa...

So, it's 4pm on #IDAHOBIT and there hasn't been a peep about it from the #LabourParty, including #KeirStarmer, LGBT+ Labour, Bridget Phillipson, Nia Griffith, Chris Bryant, or any other we could find. Even Boris Johnson's Tory Party posted for IDAHOBIT. Astonishing that Labour are somehow worse. 🥀

We brought to the Supreme Court the voices it cruelly excluded. goodlawproject.org/the-supreme-...

The reality is, Britain economically benefits from immigration and illegal migration is too small to impact most. The communities that blame immigration for decline are actually suffering the effects of 15 yrs of Tory austerity, under-investment in public infrastructure and the reality of Brexit.

@kirstymcneill.bsky.social as my MP I'm absolutely sick to my stomach that you would throw an entire community not only in Midlothian but the Uk under the bus just to further your career. Absolutely nothing from you or your failing excuse of a party @teamlabouruk.bsky.social this #IDAHOBIT

We've been working with @pluslibdems.bsky.social and @assoclibdemcllrs.bsky.social on a template council motion on trans rights that ALDC will be sending out next week! Transphobia isn't feminist, and Lib Dem Women will always stand with the Trans community.

Today is both my birthday and IDAHOBIT. Three years ago, I stood in Southwark Council and called for trans rights. I still am. This week, I challenged Southwark’s MPs to condemn the PM’s dangerous migration rhetoric. Diversity is our strength. We must reject division and fight back against hate.

Today is IDAHoBiT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia. This year it hits particularly hard. We need to do better: as a society, as a Party, and as individuals. We have a great record, but can't rest on our laurels. We're in the fight to do better, and won't let up. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💛

If this person sat next to you on a bus or train and started ranting about Bruce Springsteen in this way, you would get up and move to a different seat. In the United States, we have him the nuclear codes.

On International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, I want to say to the LGBT+ community: I hear you, I get it, I stand with you, and the Liberal Democrats will never stop fighting to build a country and a world where you are truly free to be who you are.

A group accused of suppressing data about trans youth suicides in the UK this week told QueerAF in a statement that their research was never intended for publication. We have now seen evidence that says otherwise, making the statement they sent to us, at best: Misleading. This is what we know 🧵

Lib Dems raising this point, again and again 👇 www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Along with a man and a woman who are trans, and someone who is intersex, we are suing the EHRC and the Equalities Minister in respect of the disgraceful and unlawful EHRC guidance. In line with our transparency principles we are publishing the full 32 page legal letter. goodlaw.social/2ihj

Kind of amazing how nakedly dishonest are Wes Streeting's lot when it comes to suppressing data on young people taking their own lives in consequence of the withdrawal of gender affirming care. 🤯🧵

We're campaigning to Save #DurhamPride - The Reform Party say they want to stop all Durham County Council support for equalities. This puts the event at risk, given the need for council support including road closures. Please sign and share our petition! www.durhamlibdems.org.uk/pride

There are a whole bunch of protests happening this weekend. You can find them here: whatthetrans.com/compilation-... We need to keep organising protests all over the country. It's scaring the shit out of the anti trans MPs in parliament.

This couldn’t be any truer. I feel hoodwinked.

Mon Mothma on Trump.
