This little guy is a postcard from my collection that was mailed in 1908. I love him so much that I use him as my avatar for all my accounts!

I wanted to post some photos of the #InternationalWomensDayMarch yesterday, alongside older protests saying ā€œspot the differenceā€, but there is a difference. Inclusivity and intersectionality. Rights for all means ALL. #resist #TuLuchaEsMiLucha

Taking my meds (developed by scientific research funded by the government) that allow me to be a functioning member of society before going to #standupforscience!

ā€œFunding from the NIH was contributed to 354 of 356 drugs (99.4%) approved from 2010 to 2019 totaling $187 billion, with a mean (SD) $1344.6 ($1433.1) million per target for basic research on drug targets and $51.8 ($96.8) million per drug for applied research on products.ā€ #standupforscience

Catch me in Austin tomorrow at #StandUpForScience! Things suck but Iā€™m also getting pretty amped for a weekend of protesting, on Saturday Iā€™ll be part of an international womenā€™s day march, bringing water and snacks to that as well!

Itā€™s wild how you can feel the difference between apply to jobs in a blue state versus a red state. Most jobs have been asking if Iā€™m male or female. The one Iā€™m applying for rn asked for my legal name and my ā€œlived nameā€ stating all of their internal documents will use my lived name but they do (1

BIG NEWS for @standupforscience.bsky.social New Mexico! The Governor of New Mexico officially signed a proclamation declaring Friday March 7th, 2025 as Stand Up For Science Day!! @govmlg.bsky.social I stand for science, New Mexico stands for science. I'd like to know, what do you stand for?

Serious question: if you were struggling to find a job, would you accept a position from an institution that LITERALLY (I mean literally) traumatized you, you publicly spoke out against them, & now theyā€™re offering you a job with good pay and benefits? Cause things are dark, idk if theyā€™re that dark

ā€œI wish I could tell you this has all made me stronger somehow but in reality it has only shattered my confidence. You have made me feel like I do not belong and I cannot forgive you for thatā€ is SO powerfulšŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

This is Leo. And thatā€™s a regular-sized tennis ball. Heā€™d like to know when heā€™ll be big enough to catch it. 12/10 soon, buddy

Okokokokok Iā€™m NOT ADVOCATING FOR THISā€¦. But what if we set a bunch of research animals lose in the various Capitol buildings during the stand up for science marchesā€¦ like if we all lose funding weā€™ll have to find something to do with them anyways

I need polls DESPERATELY for the stupidest reasonšŸ˜

Maybe this is just a poorly made grad school memes page nowāœŒšŸ¼ but for real, Iā€™m graduating no matter how many cool projects pop up!

What Iā€™m used to: going to the doctor and being told actually whatever real medical condition Iā€™m dealing with is ā€œjust anxietyā€ What Iā€™m not used to: also being asked to partner with them in a hypothetical future clinical trial cause they need an actual Ph.D. on their team????

I know there are way bigger problems we need to tackle right now, but when are we going to have dental care as a basic human right. Iā€™m not looking forward to the cost of new teeth in a few years just cause I couldnā€™t afford dental insurance for five yearsšŸ˜¬ I guess that goes with healthcare for all?

What it feels like revising a paper

Itā€™s so weird to be looking for jobs and seeing that the government (whether local or federal) is hiring scientistsā€¦. Like didnā€™t yā€™all just fire a ton of us and cut all our funding? And you think I wanna work for you? Iā€™d literally rather work at Walmart, which is looking like a real possibilityā€¦.

Once again I am suggesting that you break some rules for practice. Get comfortable with breaking rules. When the rules are hurting other people, the right thing to do is break them. We need people who follow their moral code over the rules of their society, university, employer, and government.

Those stickers are driving me crazy. Heā€™s always been this way, you just didnā€™t bother to know. Which is fine, we all have things we donā€™t know, we canā€™t know everything. But when something is new to you, you canā€™t act like it just started being this way.

The FBI is hiring teachersā€¦? Can someone who speaks corporate/government translate this for me? Cause the concept is super confusing

Iā€™ll be speaking at the Philly Stand up for Science at city hall!

Canā€™t stop thinking about how good it would feel to have an exoskeleton, like why is my outside squishy

A phenomenon I've experienced for years that makes me twitch a bit, is watching people (in the neighborhood, in the science community, etc) work their absolute asses off, then have people who do very little, demand that they work harder & do more, while that person sits & does nothing.

We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything Iā€™ve seen in my life. Itā€™s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country. This Friday, where will you be? standupforscience2025.org

Is it a red flag if a job says I need to ā€œbe able to obtain public trustā€ in all caps and bold multiple times? Like what are yā€™all doing thatā€™s so untrustworthy (before someone asks, itā€™s not pharma/vaccine related)

Hey the world may be on fire but I just stumbled across a job posting from Americaā€™s Funniest Home Videosā€¦. So thatā€™s something? I guess?

You know where you can go and not worry about breaking the economic blackout today? Your local library! All those books and you wonā€™t spend a penny!

Things Iā€™ve learned on the job market: there is a HUGE difference between Science Communication Specialist V Communication Scientist V Communication Specialist

So pleased to add this joyful little roadmap from Oh Happy Dani (ohhappydani.com) to my office today! It reminds me that thereā€™s always good work to be done and a pathway to do it!

At what point is it too late to give up on everything and become a pirate king?

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a meme can express a thousand feelings #deep #gradschool #research #academia

Shout out to every parent who has to keep another human being alive, fed, and properly loved no matter whatā€™s going on in the world. I can barely get myself to school, much less a tiny human who didnā€™t wanna go in the first place.

Jumping back in to #FebruArty after being away for a bit - todayā€™s prompt is glasses Went looking for a self portrait to post & came across this instead A response to the prompt ā€˜transparencyā€™ in the #SciCommInk challenge a few years ago

Lol this sign "Do not bring food into the library Food residue will attract mice Mice will acquire knowledge in the library Get into university Then replace you" šŸ˜‚

This is my ā€œdaughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteerā€ coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

Hey serious question, if I get a phd in a country that doesnā€™t exist next year, does it still count?
