Welp, i got halfway through the RPPR and then received notice the MOSAIC program, and thus my MOSAIC R00 has been terminated. Thank you to those who made this program. Thank you to the other #NIHMOSAIC fellows have supported me through my faculty journey and continue to inspire me.

My most challenging postdoctoral project, where we show that histones but not nucleosomes are polyubiqutinated by the APC/C for a potential proteasomal degradation was just published in @naturecomms.bsky.social πŸŽ‰ www.nature.com/articles/s41... Big shout-out to all co-authors!!!

After an exciting year of setting up my lab and life in Santa Cruz I am back on bluesky and hope to interact with y'all more. I'm gearing up towards setting up an arrayed CRISPR screen and wonder what are your favorite companies to work with for guide RNAs. Edit Co, IDT, Horizon?

Super useful and eminently readable demystification of writing a successful NIH grant application, written by NIH Program Officers (POs) with LOTS of great guidance:

It's hard to be a new PI and new mom without a daycare (yet). Sending β™₯️ to all moms in academia.

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science!!!

Exciting news - my lab is hiring a junior scientist! Please apply if you are interested in learning lots of biochemistry and helping me run the lab. recruit.ucsc.edu/JPF01676

Great job opportunity at UNC Chapel Hill for anyone who wants to learn or dive deeper into CryoEM. Josh (core director) is fun to work with and continues to develop new approaches and methods in CryoEM. Therefore this appointment is not just a routine technical work it's actually very creative!

I opened the eggnog season today. A little balm to my heart in these difficult times. Cheers.

Yesterday I received a Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence πŸŽ‰ Having my friends and family in the audience was incredibly moving. What a year ?! 1) I got a dream job, 2) I had a baby and now 3) this award. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who made it possible 😊

I'd also add that Alphafold doesn't predict interactions of nucleic acids with proteins, which are the basis of so many biological processes.

Nice news and views article covering our recent manuscript on bacterial histones. Thanks for covering this! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I'm trying to add my profile photo, I save changes, but it turns black when I go back to home view. Any advice?
