Someone posted the other day (last week? what is time?) about an author who recently turned down an award in Georgia. I'm looking for that original post to share with a student who's working on a related research project, but I can't find it. Anybody remember the author's name? Thanks :)

In an era in which two men, Musk and Trump, have decided to kill millions and endanger billions for their own ends, let’s celebrate James Harrison, who saved over two million babies through his donation of a rare antibody. He just died at 88. www.npr.org/2025/03/03/n...

I need a reality show where we lock rfk in a house with 10 ebola patients and tell him to demonstrate the value of diet and exercise

But who needs the NOAA/NWS, amirite? 😬

The co-director of Invisible Histories is one of my husband's dearest friends. The organization does *incredible* work. If you have the time, please volunteer!

Fuck. This.

Please do this! A couple of the cases are fully vaccinated adults whose immunity had waned.

The leadership and staff at the NIH institute who processed 100 grants in an afternoon are heroes. www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

Wild that the day after the FDA is like "Eh, maybe no flu vax next year lol" the CDC drops a report about how children and adolescents who got a flu vaccine were 32%–60% less likely to visit a doctor because of flu and 63%–78% less likely to be hospitalized.

Me in every meeting (sorry colleagues/students)

THREAD: Today, House Republicans will vote on an extreme budget that cuts $880 BILLION from Medicaid to pay for billionaire tax breaks. Ryan Mackenzie and Rob Bresnahan are swing-seat Republicans who won by only 4000 and 6000 votes, respectively. Call and pressure them so they #DontCutOurMedicaid.

We are crowd sourcing reductions in graduate admissions and hiring freezes across biomedical research and higher ed in response to pauses in NIH funding and EO’s. If you have information if you could add to this spreadsheet, it would be greatly appreciated!: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

From the makers of "Snakes on a Plane" comes a new aviation thriller for our times: "On a Plane"

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

The only thing that could make Musk & Trump support the NIH again 🙄

I think we really need to repeat, and keep top of mind - The federal employee firings are NOT ABOUT SAVING MONEY. What is spent on those employees is peanuts compared to most of the money in the government. Firing federal employees sows confusion, depletes morale, and degrades government service.

I love to joke about OSHA (and NIOSH) but every single OSHA regulation was written with someone’s blood

off-the-charts level of nobody wants this

Ooof, this is too real. I had this exact experience this morning while waiting for my dad to finish his PT.

To get through the voice menu, 1 2 2 3 1 1 to reach a person who can look up your account and take your comment. I manage a mutual aid's gift list, and people spent thousands of dollars from Target, but not anymore.

No longer referring to state corruption as banana republic shit. We're calling it cybertruck for state. No longer need to worry about IED's, trucks are more likely to explode in a fire from someone muttering DEI at them from the side of the road.

I appreciate this story more and more every time I read it.

Welp, I know what I will be doing first thing in the morning.

Ending voting for women is a core part of the Evangelical plan for the country. They have even considered implementing “household” voting where each family only casts one vote (and we know who decides). This is the first step. (Image reposted with ALT)

It is genuinely wild to be a caregiver for my dad in this particular moment. Just...so many complicated feelings.
