Vlogging, video essays, podcasting, etc., all feel like modern constructs. But when you think about it, they're closer to how most storytelling was done in history: one person with the story, talking around a bonfire, telling others what they heard. Been telling people for ages that check and balance is a fiction, performative, and a matter of taste. People perform it cause it brings cultural capital they could invest down the road. When one side no longer has the apetite nor do they see any way to invest that capital, it disappears.
