I'm proud I don't have Andrew Cuomo's record of corruption, scandal and disgrace. And the name is M-A-M-D-A-N-I.

When a cabinet member announces "We are using the military to liberate an American city from its elected leaders," where do you go from there. What is left to say. The idea of that being anything short of a near-universal "Wait, what the fuck is going on" moment proves how far we've backslid.

🧵 NYC: Zohran Mamdani is an extraordinary political talent and he CAN win this. What a signal that would send to the country and to the world. If you have been on the fence, this is the moment to go all in.

This took a while to get done, but I've chronicled my day among the protesters in Los Angeles, and the idea that this is anything but a celebration of cultural heritage and a firm, nonviolent demand to protect family, friends and neighbors is totally ridiculous. prospect.org/justice/crie...

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.” They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

“Trump is using military forces to stop a protest — I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us.” Doechii at the #BETAwards

Pasadena, CA: The AC Hotel has asked ICE to leave. Hosting ICE agents at your hotel is bad for business.

Looked to me like Israeli drones sprayed the boat with some white paint-looking substance and then the IDF surrounded it, kidnapped the people on it and cut off their communications with the world. “Diverted” doing a lot of work here

Join where you can!!

"My name is Greta Thunberg and I am from Sweden. If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupational forces, or forces that support Israel."

ONE WEEK UNTIL NO KINGS DAY! At this time next Saturday, we will be taking to the streets across the country. While Trump wastes millions on a birthday parade in DC, we’re showing up everywhere else to say NO KINGS. There are nearly 2,000 events planned. Join us: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i...

“I'm not comfortable supporting any state that has a hierarchy of citizenship on the basis of religion or anything else. I think that, in the way that we have in this country, equality should be enshrined in every country in the world. That's my belief.” - Zohran Mamdani

Oooh look at what @debtcollective.bsky.social‬ has cooking

“That child deserves our support,” @governorwalz.mn.gov continued. “Don’t worry about the pollsters calling it distractions, because we need to be the party of human dignity.”

Just sitting here thinking about how much fight it took to get the Obama Administration to do this type of thing for the accreditors of for-profit colleges that were systematically defrauding the most vulnerable students and making a mockery of the very purpose of the whole system

👀 🚨 Trump’s big brutal bill will “kill more than 51,000 Americans annually.” @ddayen.bsky.social prospect.org/politics/202...

given the @wired.com article today about labeling animal rights activism as terrorism, seems important to reup this great @astra.bsky.social and @sunaura.bsky.social piece www.vox.com/future-perfe...

The article is scarier than the headline, if that's possible. www.reuters.com/world/us/fem...

It’s June — that means No Kings Day is almost here. Trump is ignoring the courts and the Constitution, so we’re gathering again on June 14 to remind him there are NO KINGS in our country. Check out our map of No Kings Day events and everything else you need to know: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i...

I am going to write about this because they replaced immediate cash assistance with something some folks are incorrectly calling a baby bond. But it is really just a 529 redux and it will worsen class and racial wealth inequality if it does anything.

In shock. Just won the Canadian Screen Award for best direction with Ben Addelman for our documentary Plastic People. Eeeeeee!!!

Lovely piece in @thecut.com profiling Noor, the wife of Mahmoud Khalil is being forced to raise their son alone while he languishes in ICE custody. Give it a click, give it a read, give it a comment of support (the Zios found this article) www.thecut.com/article/mahm...

Great essay on resisting "armageddon academics"/"schooling for extinction" and the importance of teaching the past to free the future. "It’s not just that schools are impacted by end times fascist policy; teaching young people to accept the end of the world is a prerequisite to bringing it about."

A more appropriate headline would be “Lawfare campaign expands against ideological enemies of Elon Musk”

@chrislhayes.bsky.social: "Since the beginning of March, the people of Gaza have had no outside food, medicine or fuel. They have no way of trading with the outside world...and this is what it looks like."

This is absolutely terrible news. With the shifting regulatory climate (i.e., antivax ratfuckery), Moderna has withdrawn their application for their eagerly anticipated COVID-flu combo vaccine. This vaccine offered better protection than getting each shot separately. h/t @merz.bsky.social

Thread: Latest House GOP reconciliation bill language again makes the draconian #Medicaid cuts harsher. For example, mandatory work requirements now will take effect 12/31/26 instead of 1/1/29 and states have option to implement them earlier (1/x)

"A booming video mash-up began to play...One clip showed white crosses planted alongside a rural road stretching far into the distance, which Mr. Trump said were part of a burial site for murdered white farmers. The crosses were actually planted by activists staging a protest against farm murders."

I’m reading @astra.bsky.social’s “Democracy might not exist…” and equally heartbroken and buoyed by how well it speaks to the current moment. When you understand equality as a necessary force for democracy, the war in DEI to consolidate sovereign freedom/ power make a lot of sense.

Unbelievable. With Dem support, the senate passes an industry-friendly crypto bill that does nothing about Trump's crypto corruption. Ignore these Dems' speeches. Watch their votes. They're telling you they don't get it. And then they spam you to say Trump is bad so please donate more money.

"They're really preparing for the end of the world. They are abandoning this place. They are traitors. We respond to them in part by being committed to this place...to where we are...and to other people." Finally got to watch this, with @astra.bsky.social & @naomiaklein.bsky.social. SO GOOD.

I keep coming back to @naomiaklein.bsky.social and @astra.bsky.social’s argument that this is all “end times fascism,” a different kind of dysfunction — and worse. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

What a treat to go to a bookstore and pick up a new @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social collection. Only a few pages into the introduction, a novel word and concept worth pondering. We speak of the trouble with being shortsighted - she asks, could longsightedness something we could admire and cultivate?
