Exciting things are happening. I got to leave my mark on the Boise Art Museum lift.

Artists: what have you found makes for a productive studio visit? How would you suggest a young artist prepare for one? What would you tell them to expect?

I invited a former student to come help me in the studio over the weekend. It made twisting these two-ply paper ropes so much faster. We chatted about life after graduation, how to decide what kind of day job will allow enough time to make art, how to keep expenses low.

As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

We are still not going to Target

Final studio weekend push before the show opens. I decided I needed more color in the big installation so I twisted a bunch more bulky paper yarn and got to work.

Working with a fabulous team over at the #boiseartmuseum to develop two brand new installations of three dimensional paper paintings

When one of my students asked why the museum included my birth year on the show card, I said it’s just a standard convention. He then told me I share a birth year with Taylor Swift, which I guess means I’m now famous.

Takeaways from my first full day of install at the Boise Art Museum: —the lift is SO FUN. I thought it would be scary but it’s purely enjoyable —working with a supportive team is an absolute dream

We know who the villains are in this coup. But so many heroes are showing up to oppose them, and many of them are federal employees, including judges. I give you supreme boss-hero champion Judge Ana Reyes, telling Team Trump they don't know shit and schooling them in the facts about gender and sex.

The government cannot stop you from informing others about their legal rights. Know your rights when educating your community.

Happy Valentine's Day, especially to anyone who might identify with one of the letters in LGBTQ, particularly the day after someone Trumpy stripped the letter T and then the letter Q from the National Park Service website for Stonewall in New York City.

Sleepy, snowy day on campus. Stay safe out there, everyone!

Teaching is often a lift, but, right now, it’s doing that & more. So grateful for my students that show up open-eyed & open-hearted. This assemblage will make it into the classroom, but in a bag, where a student will draw it without being able to see it. A twist on working from observation.

Mending is a way to learn about our material world. It helps you regain some lost tactile knowledge through examining damage to a garment and how the repair holds up over time.

The Boise Art Museum is picking up the work today! They’re driving it down the street so packing did not have to be super robust, not like when shipping work across the country. Next week we start to install ✨

As the Trump administration & many state governments appear poised to accelerate attacks on higher education as a public good, the AAUP urges colleges & universities to resist the coming onslaught of political interference & defend the core values of higher education. 🧵 www.aaup.org/news/against...

Question for #seattleartists : what are your favorite things to do and places to visit on first Thursdays?

“Listening to stories and making sense of parents’ memories are obsessions of immigrant children in settler colonial societies. Perhaps this reminds us why we’re here, what we lost to make the journey, how we fit in or don’t.”

Here’s a thought made material. This method of plying paper back on itself, dripping inks, letting it dry, then replying is something new I’m trying out.

Save the date — Feb 28th will be the opening reception at the Boise Art Museum for this two-person show! I’d love to see you there. boiseartmuseum.org/exhibition/h...
