-I don't understand.. Why don't you just use the telescopes of the space station? -I admit it would be easier and provide better results but I want to observe the stars from an actual exoplanet. -So, you are an astronomy hipster now? -Oh be quiet. #SciFiSat

The skies above Paranal are at risk from a proposed industrial megaproject.  This would be located in the vicinity of ESO's Observatory. If constructed, it would irreparably impact astronomical observations. Read more: https://www.eso.org/public/news/eso2501/ 🔭  📷 ESO/P. Horálek

Please help us get the word out: our 6 wk astrophysics 🧪🔭summer research program for international MSc students is open for application! Note this is aimed at students from disadvantaged regions or under-represented groups in astro! I will host one position on black holes ⚫️! aspire.science.uva.nl

Here's a video of the spacejunk re-entry over the UK last night from Billingborough, Lincolnshire looking east. These cameras are specifically set up for aurora and other interesting phenomena 🔭🧪 #astronomy

🚨 Exciting announcement 🚨 Professor Dr Isobel Hook has been awarded the 2025 Caroline Herschel Medal for her "pioneering" work on distant supernovae and the accelerating universe! 🌌 💫🏅 Congrats Professor Hook! #WomenInSTEM #Astronomy https://buff.ly/3EBkg8f

How’s this for a Monday morning? 🤩 A team of #HumansOfEuclid discovered an Einstein ring 💍 in nearby galaxy, NGC 6505. Only possible with the unique capabilities of this wonderful telescope!

In STNG Captain Picard quotes Judge Aaron Satie: With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied chains us all irrevocably." I strongly advise everyone to read today's badastronomy newsletter by Phil Plait. Stand up.

Einstein is right, exhibit n+1.

The 3D relief in this image gets me every time. That's *Jupiter*!

Two 2nd-author paper on arXiv today! 1. The head-tail radio galaxy and revived fossil plasma in Abell 1775, by @ArdianaBushi arxiv.org/abs/2502.04913 2. Radio emission from a massive node of the cosmic web, by @CStuardi arxiv.org/abs/2502.04823 1/3

Based on the USER reviews, it seems like I'll be skipping Civilization 7.

-What on... -Oh, something finally made you speechless. Good. I'm joking but honestly, can even you at this point deny technologically advanced aliens? -The relevant question to ask right now should rather be about whether to proceed or quietly walk away. #SciFiSat #sciencefiction #scifiart

I am sad to let everyone in the astronomy community know that Glenn Schneider passed away yesterday. I've worked together with him closely in the past decade and learned a lot from him. He had a long career, culminating in various HST related projects. He was a lead scientist of the NICMOS project,

Damnation. Glenn was a friend of mine; we worked together on Hubble and I always wanted to go on one of his fancy eclipse chasing plane flights.

Bonjour tout le monde, ceci est le tout nouveau compte de la Société Française d'Astronomie et d'Astrophysique. Nous espérons vous retrouver nombreux ici !

Something else to thank EM for. "The sustained rate of daily reentries is unprecedented," says Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer at the Harvard Center for Astrophysics who tracks satellites. "They are retiring and incinerating about 4 or 5 Starlinks every day." @planet4589.bsky.social #astronomy

⚠️ A warning to my fellow astronomers🧪🔭: there seems to be a potentially systematic issue in ApJ introducing errors in citations in the production stage of papers, so if you have a current paper with them, check your proofs *very* carefully. ⚠️

I cannot tell you ho melancholy it makes me that there have been exquisite clear skies over the past few days and that I am unable to capitalize on them because I bricked my small telescope and don't yet have the heavy duty mount... two more months...

Why are all space art contests for children and teenagers? I don't see why there couldn't be any equivalent for adults (or "adults") as well.🪐🔭🎨🤔

I know nothing of American politics or government laws. But I have seen a lot of congresspeople in the past few days complaining about what is happening over there and saying that someone has to do something. And I'm sorry, but isn't that THEIR job?!
