NASA layoffs on hold, for now 🔭 We need to stay vigilant & keep making our voices heard spacenews.com/nasa-layoffs...

Wouldn't it just be a damn shame if EVERYONE emailed their five accomplishments, or 5 thoughts, or insults for Elon, to OPM as they requested of federal employees, thereby crashing the site? Sounds like good trouble to me. PASS IT ON.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

I truly think people don’t realize how many universities and colleges — especially public ones — may shut down if restrictions on and withholding of federal funding persists for even one presidency We are facing the demolition of American higher education

Contact your representatives if you disagree with the NASA layoffs 🔭

The Planetary Society strongly opposes the sudden, indiscriminate dismissal of more than 1,000 scientists, engineers, and explorers at NASA — the largest involuntary workforce reduction since the end of the Apollo program. Read more on our stance. ⬇️

If you’re an American, it takes just one minute to contact your representatives about the NASA layoffs, thanks to the Planetary Society: www.planetary.org/advocacy-act... 🔭

Being extra kind in meetings- whether virtual or in person- is a superpower, especially now. No one will ever fault you for being extra patient, generous, understanding, or gentle. If they do, it's a them problem. Stay kind y'all.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm giving a talk to my daughter's school tomorrow about animals that have been to space. Always fun getting kids to guess which animals have become astronauts, and gets a good laugh when they learn about the Moon tortoises in 1968! Cats, dogs, monkeys, tortoises... am I missing anything?

Hello blue skies & some clouds

We know Black history is American history thanks to generations of Black Americans who worked and persevered to deliver on the promises of justice and equality for all. MAGA can’t stop the generations of Black Americans who keep leading us to become a more perfect union. Happy Black History Month.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942. I know. I was there in those camps.

Hearing that HWO (Habitable Worlds Observatory) working groups have been told to halt activities as well. 🧪🔭

❗❗NASA is pausing program analysis groups activities. These are the groups that provide community input to the Astrophysics and Planetary Divisions to help shape the science that NASA supports. Source: I'm on the ExoPAG executive committee (repost with more emails blocked)

What happened with the funding freeze and the bizarre recission of the memo yet continuation of the order? It was all a legal gambit to get rid of the court cases, a gambit that will likely fail because Trump's Press Secretary kept running her mouth. I explain in @thenation.com

To recap, Trump: -Forced out the FAA chief at Musk's insistence -Imposed a hiring freeze that reportedly included air traffic controllers -Fired the TSA head and gutted a key aviation safety committee -Blamed the DCA crash on DEI This is disastrous leadership.

I am so angry that this is happening to these postdocs, including an amazing NSF fellow working with me at @jhuartssciences.bsky.social. I was an NSF fellow myself, and not being paid like this would have been devastating. We need to do better to support our early career scientists.

What the NSF is doing this week is damaging *generations* of scientific researchers and American investments in science. Billions of US tax payer dollars in investment, being thrown away, because of a fucking fishing expedition that is intended to terrorize and set the stage for a real witch hunt.

Gillis, my postbac researcher this year, left me an extremely kind note about how much they appreciated my guidance this past year ☺️ It is moments like this that makes it worth it My heart is full 🥰

Cold but blue skies ☀️

Dear price of eggs Trump voters, Not only aren’t they any cheaper, there’s an actual shortage because of the raging Bird Flu we’re not getting any public information about because the food safety & public health agencies responsible for that shit have basically been shut down. Bravo.

Firefly's Blue Ghost lander on its way to the Moon just took this pretty awesome Blue Marble image of Earth.

There are reports of potential ICE raids throughout the country, including Minnesota. Here is one campaign to help folks know their rights. www.wehaverights.us

Super cold but we have blue skies! 🥶☀️

We will get through this together: indivisibleproject.formstack.com/forms/organi...

The next few weeks are going to feel overwhelming. We’re going to suffer temporary losses on issues we care about. We’re going to face what comes next together. Not passively, but defiantly. We’re going to pick our fights, fuel backlash, and organize the pro-democracy majority to reclaim its power.

Let's fight together 💪
