JWST observations of our very own black hole (the one at the centre of the Milly Way) show that its brightness changes basically all the time. A very nice ABC News article (including some quotes by me ๐Ÿ˜Ž) ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿงช www.abc.net.au/news/science...

Thanks, Rami! SciComm and radio astronomy unite! I've even written a radio pulsar paper ๐Ÿ˜Ž

11 years ago today, I finished my first ever astronomy research report at the end of a fantastic summer research project at @icrar.bsky.social! I was still an undergrad and before this project, I thought I'd be a cosmologist. But radio got me hooked and look where I am today!

So grateful to be part of such a legendary team with such amazing women in STEM! ๐Ÿ“ก๐ŸŒŸ

A new way of finding mysterious fast radio bursts using Australian technology and an Australian telescope! A very cool innovation that's already finding new things www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01... ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ”ญ

With a lot of tough things happening in the world riggr now, the misinformation that stars are dead when you wish on them feels very mean spirited ๐Ÿฅบ luckily, I looked into it and worked out that the stars we wish on are very much alive ๐ŸŒŸ ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ”ญ

For the next couple of days, we have a chance to see a once in 160,000 year event! Comet C/2024 G3 survived its close encounter with the Sun, read more about how to see it here: theconversation.com/a-bright-sun... ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿงช

Hear from Joshua, the first author of the latest ASKAP discovery! Interviewed by Dr Kirsten Banks for @ozgrav.bsky.social ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿงช

Check out this new cosmic weirdo discovered using @csiro.bsky.social's ASKAP telescope! It spins so slowly that you could watch both the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers and still have time leftover before it finishes a full rotation Read more: theconversation.com/blinking-rad...

Happy 11th birthday to my doggo, Astro! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‚ here he's pictured living the kind of life of comfort and relaxation only whippets can achieve ๐Ÿ˜†

Oh look, it's me ๐Ÿ˜… Radio telescopes can observe day and night, and the atmosphere isn't a problem ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ I work on radio stars and often forget that you can't just observe at other wavelengths whenever you like... and sometimes you even need a space telescope!

The amazing @esa.int Gaia telescope is taking its last measurements today Gaia has had a tremendous impact on astronomy. Without the easy to access (and use) data releases, a lot of the work I do would be impossible Thank you, Gaia and team! Can't wait for the future data releases! ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿงช

My favourite space telescope will be taking its last measurements on Wednesday ๐Ÿฅน still loads of data to be released, but it's a sad moment for any telescope ๐Ÿ”ญ

Check out this interactive viewer @adavidweigel.bsky.social made of the Sydney Radio Star Catalogue! Such a fun way to view the positions of the stars ๐ŸŒŸ ๐Ÿ“ก๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ”ญ

Oh heck yes! Never before has the Southern Hemisphere been so well surveyed using a radio telescope ๐Ÿ”ญ ๐Ÿ“ก๐Ÿงช Amazing work by Stefan and the RACS (and ASKAP) team! That's 3 all sky ASKAP surveys (at 3 different frequencies) down and hopefully loads more to come!

Wondering how Santa does it? I calculated how fast he'd need to go. And, in true scientist style, how we'd measure his speed using Rudolph's red nose ๐ŸŽ…๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ”ด Merry nerdy Christmas!
