Hot take: Our goal, should not be “boots on the moon”- it should be developing a cislunar space economy, colonizing mars, AND developing huge space habitats for millions of people to work, and live in. Aim high, score high. Boots on the moon is only the first step (pun intended).

I feel like a future lunar, and/or martian greenhouse would be HEAVILY quarantined. Martian ones especially. Lots of bacteria and microorganisms are pretty important to the plants & their microecosystem. I’d be surprised if any biologists/botanists are allowed outside of the base on EVA lmaooo.

I think major aquaculture and hydroponic systems are going to be heavily used on Mars & the Moon. Raising fish for meat has crazy good psychological and physical benefits than an all-plant/fruit diet. What I would LOVE to find out is how fish react and grow in low gravity environments.
