Clearly game, set and match to Liverpool. Just goes to show: the benefit of an unexpectedly strong start is really underappreciated in terms of building momentum. They had only dropped 3 points by late October.

Supertanski is delusional. Thinks she's a 'satirist'. Demands boycott of American products while clutching iPhone. Throws the term 'Nazi' like confetti when *that* picture exists. I don't think she can even see it. How have family/close friends not had a word? I think I know why.

Great finish from Mbappé but the defending was non-existent. This rebuild is going to take 2/3 years #rmamci

I'd like to say I'm above such trivialities but it's good to see this football make a comeback in the Villa - Liverpool game. Very fond memories with this on the school field!

That deft lay off from Rodrygo was perfect. Always preferred him to Vinicius #rmamci #ucl

This is a confected non-story. However, much of the stuff going on in the blind spot of the camera is very revealing, particularly for certain positions. Tuchel has been to 17 matches already so it's not an issue. But only watching football matches on television would be less than ideal.

If anyone has BFI Player: watch 'Klokkenluider' (it's English despite the Flemish title). Low key but decent and very creepy. Would describe it as a B-side of In Bruges combined with Utopia.

It's not ridiculous to suggest Nwaneri is more naturally gifted than even Saka - he's that bloody good!

Not actually surprised by this. Put money on them when I saw how overpriced Atalanta were; Club Brugge are pretty experienced in early k/o stage. Plus, I've correctly predicted which team would progress in all but 3 knockout ties in the last two editions of the Champions League.

Given that I've seen some raving about Valverde I'm going to say this. Very good box-to-box player, physically dominant & an insane strike, obviously. But I think he's a touch overrated. He isn't amazing on the ball, technique lacks somewhat and he never quite convinces against elite opposition.

Mbappé isn't hitting anything cleanly atm. His flukey finish rather fitting. Don't think he is fully sharp (blazed high a really decent chance, sloppy touches) but was fun to watch when he had space to attack. The fact RM's makeshift defence held out better is indictment of Guardiola #ucl #mcirma

Does this help?

The Newport landfill bitcoin story is begging for a film to be made! i) bleak existentialist exploration of loss and time with Freudian undertones ii) the conniving ex-girlfriend is living in luxury on a Scaramanga type island. Howells doggedly tracks her down. I suspect the latter would do better.

Just did a double take...I swear that's Mike Dean in the glasses and darkish hoodie! #snooker #welshopen

Buying Kean for anything more than £20-£25m would be a bad, bad idea. Squad player at best. #arsenal

Right on cue...and he's got a goal in him #munlei

Maguire has been unfairly maligned over the years. Deceptively cultured on the ball. Passes very well over medium/long range and has the bravery to try even when receiver has marginal space. And, if anything, his defensive errors for Man Utd are a bonus.

Alluded to this a few weeks ago but there really is a quiet revolution underway in English football. Of all foreign clubs to win a Champions League title, 8/10 now have at least one English player in their first-team squad. Only Barca & Inter don't. This was unthinkable a few years ago. #UCL

Manchester City a classic example of complex systems and overspecialisation allowing small changes to result in catastrophic failure.

Remember watching #TheCockfields on one of the obscure channels years ago and it now seems to have graduated onto iPlayer. Just finished the second series. It's quietly very enjoyable. Amusing with just the right note of pathos (while avoiding mawkishness), and even a hint of something darker.

€77m for Jhon Duran is Dick Turpin stuff. Bad attitude. More likely he would've faded into obscurity than become a world beater. How long before the Saudis decide they don't want Europeans taking the piss? Helped them out with so many 'saddled' contracts and paid wildly over-the-odds transfer fees.

"We'll play some more soon..." I'm sure there's an innocent explanation!!!

The cold is nothing. I can handle the cold. In the UK it's the constant dirty grey skies that grinds you down.

When it was getting slated early on I predicted the consensus would shift by the penultimate match

When Joey Barton joined Marseille in 2012 it was looked at as a freaky novelty. In fact any 'good' English player going abroad felt parallel universe-y. Even 10 years ago, having a reasonable proportion of England intl's (Kane, Bellingham, Gallagher, Walker) playing abroad was inconceivable...

Jake: I feel so stupid Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. #thetraitors

It's fine for a cheap thrill but #thetraitors is quite flawed IMO. Groupthinking, Apprentice wannabes. Dull, irrelevant tasks. Tends towards a popularity contest. Lack of jeopardy for traitors. Incentive to remove the smartest early. But main flaw is that unless you're a traitor it's 95% luck.

Noticed Infantino's bald bonce perched in the small crowd behind Donald Trump at the inauguration. You forget that the latter will be presiding over a World Cup Final in 18 months time.

Said last season that Iraola had to be considered in the top 3 managers in the league. Even more so this year. Incredible achievement that seems to be flying slightly under the radar

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lands manager job and it isn't in Subway

Of course they're making matey jokes about his appointment during the intro. I've always found 'Chappers' (bet he devised that nickname himself) an annoying try-hard. Hope he isn't doing England matches - do we know who is? #motd

If Leanne doesn't drive a Fiat 500 I'd be flabbergasted #thetraitors

"Get over it". Superb #thetraitors

He's obviously a brilliant player but there's something, to borrow from FIFA parlance, slightly sweaty about the way Judd Trump plays.

Don't rate Bissouma at all. Something completely off with his rhythm. Everything too ponderous, like a midfield Grealish. Or passes fractionally inaccurate e.g. not optimal for team-mate's first touch, slightly too quick/slow and so on.

If Joe was chocolate he'd eat himself...and then whine about it for hours #thetraitors

I was so close to putting money on Dyche as next to go last week. Play awful football and underpeforming by 5/6 pts at this stage. But the paradox - take points in successive matches to Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City yet lost to So'ton, the most dismal PL team for 20 years.
