If they haven’t done so already, I wonder long will it take for nonprofit newsrooms to tell funders that it’s too risky to prioritize DEI. They can take their old DEI money, add their new colorblind money, and keep hiring and retaining the same white reporters and editors they always did.

I’m a formerly undocumented immigrant in a mixed-status family. I’m also an investigative reporter. These remarks are terrifying. There will be many projects to work on and stories in tell in the coming years but today it feels nothing less than devastating to me that I’m currently unemployed.
