We're always eager to throw down with the Florida Freedom to Read Project, and we're very proud to have made a difference 💛

ACTION NEEDED TODAY - THE CLOCK IS TICKING TO OVERTURN TWO NEW STATEWIDE BOOK BANS AND RETURN DECISION-MAKING TO LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS Click now to send an email today: letutahread.org/localcontrol @wgawest.bsky.social @authorsguild.bsky.social @authorsabb.bsky.social @ncacensorship.bsky.social

AABB stands with our trans members, friends, colleagues, heroes, and the countless trans Americans who will be affected by this needlessly cruel Executive Order from the Trump Administration. We are proud to do so alongside so many of our comrades in the fight against book bans.

President Trump's DOE has made themselves clear: they will support book banners in their efforts to strip our institutions of learning of the books that define them. So let us be perfectly clear: we're going to do whatever we can to try and stop them.

Authors Against Book Bans responds to the DOE statement supporting book banning in American public schools

Stopped by Head House Books to celebrate the right to #readfreely with @authorsabb.bsky.social & picked up a copy of @chadgalucas.bsky.social’s YOU OWE ME ONE, UNIVERSE. I loved THANKS A LOT, UNIVERSE, which is warm, funny, & a perfect antidote to toxic masculinity & I can’t wait to read the sequel.

#readingfreely with @authorsabb.bsky.social a favorite by #nkjemisin at awesome queer comics shop @sourcherrycomics.bsky.social #booksbooksbooks

I stopped by Meet Cute Bookshop to pick up The Broposal because queer joy is sustaining and worth fighting for🔥✨ And because the mutual pining promises to be epic!! #ReadFreely @authorsabb.bsky.social

Posting a little late today, but I absolutely celebrate my right to #readfreely! 📖❤️ Maus is a Prize-winning graphic novel which tells the story of Art Spiegelman's Jewish parents during and after the Holocaust. It has been banned in some school districts in the U.S. @authorsabb.bsky.social

As a children's book author, book bans have been part of the landscape for my whole career. It's getting worse. We need to protect the freedom to read, always. Thanks to the beloved @regulatorbookshop in #Durham for letting me stage an impromptu photo shoot. #readfreely @authorsabb.bsky.social

At my favorite indie Third Place Books with @brandonshimoda.bsky.social 's new book, for #readFreely ! @authorsabb.bsky.social

I only read this book today! But it suits the prompt from @portersqbooks.bsky.social & @authorsabb.bsky.social to “Share a book that brings you joy & your favorite indie bookstore.” Easy to imagine finding Bendemolena and her hampering headgear in Poor Richard’s Books (Co Springs). #readfreely

Stopped by my local ATL book store today, (Bookish) to #readfreely! No ban can stop me from reading and sharing the books I love. Thanks to @authorsabb.bsky.social for bringing us together.

As a member of @authorsabb.bsky.social, I am proud to #ReadFreely at a local bookstore. #UniteAgainstBookBans. (My shirt reads “I survived reading banned books and all I got was smarter. I am reading LITTLE WOMEN.)

Getting lost in the stacks at @pegasusbookexchange is my safe space. I always find something I didn’t know I was looking for. #ReadFreely @authorsagainstbookbans @americanbooksellers @abfefreeexpression

Happy #ReadFreely Day! An excellent day to stand for independent bookstores, who are still standing strong against book bans. Pinellas friends: Visit Back in the Day Books in Dunedin (just off the Pinellas Trail) and show your love! @authorsabb.bsky.social

I’m not on my Instagram anymore but I still wanted to participate in @authorsabb.bsky.social’s #ReadFreely activity, so here’s a pic of me at my local indie bookstore (Troubador Books in East Charlotte) with a book that sparks joy. It’s also a relevant read!

This weekend #ReadFreely with @authorsabb.bsky.social & your local indie bookstore! I picked up AMERICAN TEENAGER: how trans kids are surviving hate and finding joy in a turbulent era, by Nico Lang, and UNSUITABLE: a history of lesbian fashion, by Eleanor Medhurst.

This weekend #ReadFreely with @authorsabb.bsky.social and your local indie bookstore! I chose FAMILY STYLE by Thien Pham, his gorgeous memoir of coming to the US all the foods that defined the way.

My all-time fave. Tolkien’s epic, hopeful story is especially timely now as we fight the dark power of the Ring. Where is our Aragorn?? #ReadFreely @authorsabb.bsky.social

Very proud to be a part of this.

Today, AABB sent an open letter to over 90 CEOs in the publishing world to express our needs from them heading into the next Trump administration. If you agree with it, please consider sharing it with your editors and agent. The more of us who push the better our results will be.

Publishers must not obey in advance. Publishers must protect the right to read and right to write. And protect their right to publish diverse books. Fascists go after books first, then people. We know because they're already doing it here.

An Open Letter to our Publishers has been sent to over 90 Publishing CEOs this morning in response to the concerns of our members. 1/4
