Donna Leon's latest Inspector Brunetti mystery, A Refiner's Fire, is as full of zigs and zags as Venice's canals. It starts with "baby gangs" and swerves several times until the surprising ending. Unusually, Leon hasn't tied up all the loose threads which makes it feel like half a book. It's a 4.
