Being an #autistic woman with a menstrual cycle means that my needs and abilities tend to fluctuate at different phases of my cycle (1/3)

I'm really enjoying season 3 of Somebody Somewhere on HBO. As a sensitive #autistic, I find most tv/movies too loud, violent, and upsetting. But this show is so....gentle. I love how it's mostly about friendships and how to be authentic in them. Anyone have recs of shows with a similar tone?

Respected Mother, wherever there is soil, water, or air, you are there. You give us life and nourish us. If we nurture the awareness that we are always in you and you are always in us, then both of us are peaceful, happy, healthy, and strong. #ThichNhatHanh #zen #buddhism

I've learned through my IFS practice that there's a connection between my autistic hyper-empathy and my tendency to sometimes caretake or control others. 1/3

For those of us who have experienced ableism or other forms of trauma, we may have internalized beliefs that our needs are too much, and won’t or can’t be met. (1/3)

As I’ve learned what types of situations put me into #autistic meltdown, I’ve also learned that if those situations are unavoidable, I need to schedule time spent in silence afterwards where I can be with my parts who melted down. (1/3)

For those of us who have been told time and again that who we are is not okay, an antidote can be to join in spaces where we are told that actually, who we are is absolutely okay. Free Discussion Circles coming up February 22 + March 1 www.patriceriley.com/autistic-pre...

Healing from autistic burnout requires me To treat myself like a serious person, with needs that must be taken seriously, Even when others don't. Healing requires me to become the authority of my own life. (1/2)

Autistic people benefit from consistency and predictability, so the ever changing rhythms of a woman's body can be one more overwhelming challenge to navigate in a world full of overwhelming challenges. (1/4) www.patriceriley.com/autistic-pre...

Part of my recovery from autistic burnout has looked like Making an intentional and gradual effort to remove myself from places of sensory distress And experiencing (more deeply and for longer periods of time) places of sensory delight

A note of optimism, badly needed

The more I protect my sensitivity, The more I experience my sensitivity as a gift. (1/3)

These are times in which many of us feel called to external activism. What will allow us to sustain this vital external activism is a committment to internal activism.
