No idea. Their yard isn't that big, so it wouldn't take much to maintain real grass. They used a cheap version and installed it poorly; it looks so bad.

We have a neighbor here that put down artificial grass everywhere on their property. It looks horrible and they let their dogs go to the bathroom on it. So gross.

Otterbox has a series with cases made from cactus leather. My partner has one, and it feels like a normal case. I'm not sure if it is compostable.
