If you want to solve great puzzles that also Do Not Mince Words about fascism, edgelords, and Nazi sympathizers, then you’re probably already subscribed to @avcx.bsky.social but if you are into cryptics (or want to be) you should definitely subscribe to Out of Left Field www.leftfieldcryptics.com

The NYT crossword would never let a truth like this through! Glad to have made the switch to @avcx.bsky.social .

It's a blue Monday here at Lil AVCX … but that's actually a good thing! We're excited to share Will Eisenberg's (@tlmberwolves.bsky.social) 11x11 creation "Blue Man Group." This one might put up a little bit of a fight early on, but we think you'll be able to vanquish it with relative ease.

I really should put it on my CV that I sent Will Shortz (a noted collector of odd crossword artifacts) scans of Thai-language crossword puzzles published in gay skin mags in the 1980s. Found these treasures in Benedict Anderson’s papers after he died.

LMAO WHAT

We all, in this time, need to pick an oppositional task that makes sense for us, and to plug away at it consistently and relentlessly. The AVCX is an independent media outlet. We’re in a position to be politically critical without alienating any corporate boss, and so we will be.

A gorgeous visual element in “Look Before You Leap,” a new puzzle from Jeremy Newton and Matthew Stock hitting inboxes tonight. Here’s the grid in PDF. Avxwords.com

Always an incredible collection, with an urgent purpose. Go get it.

If it’s serving the public interest, media should be as close to communism as possible — worker-owned, walled off from profit, and unencumbered by corporate support or control. If the goal is money rather than truth, you might as well be in real estate.

New AV Classic crossword dropping tonight from Greg Snitkin and Sala Wanetick, a fresh constructing duo. It’s called “We Saw You from Across the Bar” and you will be happy while solving it which ain’t half bad of a thing Avxwords.com is where you subscribe/do a free trial

Thanks to everyone who submitted a puzzle to AVCX Classic this cycle. We’ve reached our submission limit for this cycle, so we’re closing up a few days early. We invite and very much look forward to seeing your work in May, when we reopen.

Forgive me this post, but my son just had a crossword puzzle accepted for publication in the LA Times! (He’s 12!) (He very much wrote it himself!)

Trump can kiss our ass, no matter what. All media outlets and institutions should strike the same posture for as long as necessary.

Our new policy is rolling out to solvers by email now. It matters to us that our solvers be assured that the AVCX has a moral grounding. Though we’re probably too small to matter to the right (tho who really knows), we feel that people have a right to know where institutions stand.

We got overwhelmingly very great responses to this (a couple hundred emails). Probably 90% positive. The other 10% were either cancellations or “this is a center-right country; when will you learn?” Those are so weird and yet, fascinating to think with.

I, for one, appreciate that the crossword outlet @avcx.bsky.social has a better Trump-specific editorial policy than most mainstream news outlets.

Thread with AVCX’s revised editorial policy regarding Donald Trump: — In early 2017, AVCX announced a new editorial policy, namely that we as a feature would regard Donald Trump as an asshole when we referred to him in print.

Great project. Follow for crosswords that fund abortion access directly. Lots of AVCX people involved too.

Come be part of AVCX! A fine and supportive puzzle community.
