Grumman XP-50, a variant of the XF5F Skyrocket for the AAF. It wasn’t adopted but you can see the evolution towards the F7F.

#TDIH - January 29, 1932 - First flight of the DH.83 Fox Moth, a successful small biplane passenger aircraft from the 1930s powered by a single de Havilland Gipsy Major I inline inverted engine, manufactured by the de Havilland Aircraft Company.

Captured American aircraft, including a B-17 Flying Fortress, fly over Tokyo's Yasukuni shrine as part of an Oct. 1942 festival. They were later put on display (see below). Obara Masao, an Asahi war correspondent on board the B-17, later spoke of the deep unease he felt during the flight. 1/
