I gotta say going on hormonal birth control was life changing. Obviously not everyone’s experience, but I feel like I only see people saying how terrible the hormones are. Is this just me?

Maybe WIRED is going to be to the musk takeover what WashPo was for watergate…love that for them.

It feels like no one should have to say this, and yet we are in a situation where it needs to be said, very loudly and clearly, before it’s too late to do anything about it: The United States is not a startup. If you run it like one, it will break. 🔗 www.wired.com/story/the-us...

Really happy with my wired subscription. Top notch

REP. @maxwellfrost.bsky.social says billionaires like Elon Musk want Americans to blame immigrants and trans people etc. for their economic struggles when their insatiable greed is behind the Gilded Age levels of inequality 🎯 🇺🇸 💰

Now that it's pretty clear Musk's running the country, here's a must read by @beccalew.bsky.social

I missed this entirely: The FAA Administrator criticized Space X’s safety record and threatened fines. Musk demanded he resign. He did. On January 20th. www.thedailybeast.com/faa-chief-mi...

American media: What could Elon Musk's hand gesture have meant? German media: We know exactly what the fuck that meant

All members of the media should bring Trump's actions today back to the question: How does this lower the price of eggs?

Is...is hell freezing over?

NEW: Meta has quietly dismantled the system that prevented misinformation from spreading in the United States. Machine-learning classifiers that once identified viral hoaxes and limited their reach have now been switched off, Platformer has learned www.platformer.news/meta-ends-mi...

In my late 20s a friend’s little sister gifted me some luxury brand face powder, she got through her internship. I thanked her for such a lovely gift and she offhandedly said, yeah lots of older women love the product…and I think about it…all. the. time. 😆 👵

idk who needs to hear this but climate change isn’t *your* fault. the earth has enough to provide for all of us regular people. should we always be mindful of our consumption? of course. but it’s literally just a handful of rich greedy fucks that are exploiting the earth to death.

👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 DO IT

I’m at that age sweet spot where the NYT crossword clues referencing classic pop culture really hit. “What’s cooler than cool?”….ICE COLD

Ultraprocessed foods are made using methods and ingredients you wouldn’t normally find in a home kitchen. Research suggests that cutting down on them might benefit our health. How many UPFs do you typically buy on a trip to the supermarket? Try our quiz to find out.

I'm notoriously bad about taking photos and videos. This article made me feel better about it: www.theatlantic.com/family/archi...

French people do this really lovely thing where they write everyone they know long messages wishing them a Happy New Year. I’ll spend 20 minutes trying to think up a normal human response and come up with this: 🥳🥂😘

This is really real. I don’t talk much about my day job on here, but a *huge* reason I feel good (both ethically & in terms of a massive business opportunity) about working where I do is it’s an exceedingly rare thing: a company with its own global platform all the way down to the hardware.

The 4 yo is by himself adding up numbers into the calculator he received this Christmas and laughing maniacally. Simple pleasures, I guess…

I don’t think people understand how devastating the end of net neutrality, and consumer protections around internet connectivity, are going to be. Imagine the situation where you pay for 4 or 5 different streaming services, each with different “exclusives” — but for the Internet itself.

It’s over 1,000km from Berlin to Paris There’s now a direct daytime train between them, that takes 8 hours and costs just €59. Leave at 10am, arrive 6pm. And… it’s just 1% the carbon emissions of the equivalent flight www.euronews.com/travel/2024/...

President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100. He was a symbol of what is best about America: kindness, compassion, duty and service. He will be missed, most of all by those who long for a return of that kind of country, led by a man with such strength of character.

Fun to see the people who say “America First” and mean “whites first” fight with the people who say “America First” and mean “money first”

"I never thought they'd deport *my* indentured immigrant servants," sobs man who spent $44.2 billion electing the Deport All the Immigrants Party www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...

At the time, $44B seemed like an insanely stupid price for purchasing Twitter, but who knew it came with the right to run the US government?

The lawyer helping Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pick federal health officials for the incoming Trump administration has petitioned the government to revoke its approval of the polio vaccine, which for decades has protected millions of people from a virus that can cause paralysis or death.

Did anyone ever think that maybe the Grinch was right? The Grinch is just some mom who finally decided to opt out of Christmas after years of lugging the mental load. Let her be…

When they talk about privatizing Veterans’ care and Medicare, they mean allowing companies to provide healthcare for a profit. But how do companies make those profits? By *denying* care to many who need it. Don’t get fooled by the “privatization” label. It means “for profit” and YOU are the cost.

One of the fun things about raising my kids abroad is they ask questions about very American things that I’ve never thought about…like my 7yo asking me ‘What’s a casserole?’

I feel a little warm and fuzzy when the American section at the grocery store runs out of Karo corn syrup at this time of year…Enjoy your Thanksgiving, my expat friends. 🥧
