I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way but I often feel like an island as an artist. I know lots of other people and I have communities I belong to but there's a certain distance I keep when it comes to my art. I think it's a mechanism to remain safe on the Internet.

I got accepted for a job last week and before I even was able to start they messaged me saying that they were going with another candidate because my paperwork didn't make it to them. Completely out of my control. I'm so numb right now. I was just a few days away from starting and now nothing.

I've been feeling very disconnected from in person community lately. I think I see people less now than I did during lockdown.

It's good to help others but sometimes good natured folks are taken advantage of by people who play helpless. I'm not sure if it's beneficial to help someone who is simply trying to avoid accountability instead of someone who genuinely needed it because life got in the way.

Watched David Lynch's masterclass and he's right about suffering artists. We don't make better art when we're suffering. He claims that the suffering artist is a romanticized idea and he's right. I'm sure whoever popularized this idea was someone who never made anything.
